Outpatient Adult Bariatric Dietitian

Job Summary This position provides medical nutrition therapy to patients and their families, along with consultation to the interdisciplinary care team on service. Provision of medical nutrition therapy follows standards of practice, policies and procedures. Responsibilities include nutritional assessment, diet calculation, coordination of nutritional services with the patient care team and community agencies, participation in case conferences, and continuity of care. The Clinical Dietitian applies the Nutrition Care Process (NCP), uses the Scope of Dietetics Practice Framework (SODPF) and evidence‑based guidelines to determine nutrition interventions and to monitor patient progress. Minimum Qualifications Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) registered with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ Commission on Dietetic Registration. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 3 months of hire or upon an assignment change requiring BLS. Bachelor’s or higher degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or a related field (or equivalent). Completion of an ACEND‑approved dietetics program and supervised practice experience. Strong academic background and applied experience in clinical nutrition. Knowledge of medical nutrition therapy principles, including enteral and parenteral nutrition support. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Proficiency in using computers for daily tasks, including word processing and spreadsheet software. Preferred Qualifications Specialty certification in an area of practice (e.g., CNSC, CSO, CDCES, CSR, CSG, CSP, CSPCC, CSOWM, CSSD, RDN‑AP/RD‑AP). For pediatric assignments: California Children’s Services (CCS) Dietitian Paneling designation or eligibility to obtain within one year. Two or more years of relevant work experience. Experience in a large teaching hospital or academic medical center. Experience with electronic medical record systems. Experience teaching and supervising dietetic interns or other students. Knowledge and application of nutrition therapy principles in pediatric populations (for pediatric positions). Key Responsibilities 55% – Coordinate provision of medical nutrition therapy. 20% – Provide nutritional counseling and education to patients and caregivers. 20% – Provide and precept educational experience to interns and other professional staff. 5% – Promote nutrition within the medical center and community.
