Maintenance Plumber-TM

Summary Objective The purpose of this position is to operate hand and power tools and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Assembles, installs, repairs and replaces pipes, fittings and fixtures for plumbing, water, drainage and heating systems. This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences. Essential Functions The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary. Monitors inventory levels and orders parts, supplies, equipment, and materials. Examines, repairs, replaces, installs and adjusts leaks and malfunctions in water and sewer lines, pumps, garbage disposals, dishwashers, hot water heaters, gas lines, gas furnaces, and other plumbing fixtures. Provides technical assistance and instruction in pre-assembling plumbing and pipe fixtures, in the proper method and procedures to repair or replace plumbing fixtures, water and gas lines to assure compliance with OSHA and plumbing codes. Coordinates and schedules plumbing work that is required to be performed by a licensed plumber or mechanical contractor. Saws openings in walls and floors to accommodate copper or plastic pipe and pipe fittings using hand tools and power tools. Measures, cuts and threads pipe using pipe cutters, cutting torch and pipe threading machine. Assembles and installs pipe fittings; joins pipes; glues, sells and caulks joints; and checks water lines to ensure that leak is properly sealed. Studies blueprints to determine type of plumbing system required, location of water and gas lines, and the proper method to complete repair work. Performs related work as assigned. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Certificate from a two-year vocational program in Plumbing and two (2) years of residential or commercial plumbing installation, maintenance or repair experience. or two (2) years of licensed plumbing experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Other Minimum Requirements Must wear safety equipment as mandated by OSHA. Must submit to fingerprinting for criminal history check. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history. Must complete the annual security awareness training. Physical Demands Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis. Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment) Involves routine and frequent exposure to: Bright/dim light; dusts and pollen. Extreme heat and/or cold; wet or humid conditions. Extreme noise levels, animals/wildlife. Vibration; fumes and/or noxious odors. Traffic; moving machinery. Electrical shock; heights.
