Lighting Designer

This role focuses on building foundational skills in lighting design, studio processes, technical documentation, and design communication while contributing to project teams across a variety of project types. Working within a collaborative studio environment, the Lighting Designer I develops an understanding of how light shapes architectural experience while learning the firm's design approach, technical standards, and project delivery processes. The position emphasizes professional growth, technical proficiency, and the development of strong design thinking skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Design Contribution & Development Assist project teams in developing lighting concepts throughout project phases. Support the preparation of visual presentations, design studies, and concept materials. Learn how lighting interacts with architecture, materials, and occupant experience. Participate in design reviews, critiques, and internal discussions. Develop familiarity with the firm's design philosophy, presentation standards, and project workflows. Research products, precedents, and design to support project development. Technical Documentation & Production Produce drawings, lighting layouts, and documentation under supervision. Assist with fixture schedules, specifications, and supporting documentation. Prepare presentation graphics, diagrams, and renderings. Perform basic lighting calculations and photometric studies with guidance. Develop proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, AGi32, DIALux, Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam, and related software. Follow internal quality-control and documentation standards. Project Support & Coordination Support project teams in meeting project schedules and deliverables. Participate in project meetings, site visits, and field observations. Assist with coordination efforts between internal and external team members. Maintain organized project files and documentation. Support construction administration activities as directed. Actively build knowledge of lighting design principles, technologies, controls, and construction methods. Seek and apply feedback to improve both design and technical skills. Demonstrate accountability in meeting deadlines and managing assigned tasks. Contribute to a positive studio culture grounded in collaboration, respect, and shared responsibility. Engage in ongoing professional development, training, and industry exposure.
