Test Engineer I - Electrical Controls

Job Summary We’re seeking a skilled Test Engineer I to support the development & validation of AAON control solutions through product design and development testing. As a Test Engineer I, you will work closely with engineers to ensure end‑to‑end functionality aligns with product design, testing and troubleshooting. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, innovative, and an excellent communicator who can bridge technical knowledge cross‑functionally, including field service, engineers, and sales management. Responsibilities Work directly with New Product Development teams and support a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. Prototyping and Assembly: Test electronic circuits, PCBs, embedded software sequences, and HVAC system configurations as part of the product development process. Test and Validation: Complete test procedures for system level testing and individual components, document findings, and recommend improvements. Wire, configure, and construct custom test fixtures to support various system level production configurations. Collaborate with engineers, field services, sales, and other team members to develop and refine designs. Conduct compliance testing to ensure products meet industry standards and regulatory requirements. Provide technical support and guidance to other team members and departments as needed. Utilize electric powered and manual hand tools (digital multimeter, soldering iron, drill, impact driver, wrench, ratchet, torque wrench, etc.). Participate in educational opportunities, review new and upcoming HVAC system requirements, and use web‑based resources to advance professional knowledge. Maintain product and company reputation by complying with company policies including confidentiality and compliance with federal, state, and industry regulations. Review project plans for potential issues, providing recommendations for resolution. Assist other engineers on various projects as required. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in engineering technology, HVACR Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field; or four to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid licensed driver for independent travel to job sites as may be required. Operational knowledge of commercial HVAC systems, preferably specific knowledge and experience with AAON equipment. Basic knowledge of electrical or electronic systems (voltage, current, resistance, capacitance, inductance, relays, etc.). Ability to read and comprehend machine wiring diagrams; use DVM in system troubleshooting. Strong leadership, communication, decision‑making, problem‑solving, multi‑tasking, organizational, and team‑work skills. Ability to work with minimal supervision and in fast‑paced, high‑pressure environments. Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel; willingness to learn and use various testing tools. Work Environment Lift up to 10 lbs.; sit up to 85% of work hours. Primary work environment is office; occasional travel to job sites may involve exposure to precarious or hazardous places, outdoor weather conditions, rooftop equipment, and risk of electrical shock. Some travel is expected.
