Your impact We are seeking an Environmental Permitting Professional to support the planning, permitting, and delivery of electric transmission projects. This role will help secure environmental approvals and maintain regulatory compliance across project phases, from early routing and feasibility through construction, restoration, and closeout. The successful candidate will demonstrate sound judgment, strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across engineering, environmental, regulatory, real estate, legal, and stakeholder‑engagement disciplines. Core functions of the job may include Lead preparation and submission of complex federal, state, and local environmental permit applications. Develop permitting strategies, schedules, agency outreach plans, and risk‑management approaches. Independently coordinate consultants producing environmental studies, field assessments, and application materials. Manage agency comments, information requests, permit revisions, commitments, and approval tracking. Facilitate coordination among engineering, land, construction, environmental, legal, external affairs, and project‑management teams. Participate in negotiations and technical discussions with regulators, municipalities, and external stakeholders. Review technical work products for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and regulatory alignment. Mentor junior analysts and provide practical guidance on permitting procedures, technical requirements, and project delivery. Report permitting status, risks, opportunities, constraints, and schedule impacts to project leadership. Promote safe work practices and integrate health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements into all project activities. The role combines office‑based project coordination with periodic travel and field work. Field activities may involve walking over uneven terrain, exposure to variable weather and construction conditions, and compliance with site‑specific safety requirements. Where assigned as a Permitting Professional, the employee works under the direction of a Permitting Lead. Here's what you'll need Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental planning, natural resources, geology, biology, engineering, planning, public policy, or a related field. 4–8 years of progressive environmental consulting, regulatory, planning, engineering, construction, or infrastructure experience. Demonstrated professional experience leading environmental permitting, regulatory compliance, environmental review, and linear infrastructure project delivery. Advanced ability to interpret complex regulations, permit conditions, technical studies, and agency correspondence. Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience presenting to agencies, project leadership, or public stakeholders. Proven ability to manage complex project priorities, schedules, documentation, and multidisciplinary teams. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and common project‑documentation tools. Ability and willingness to participate in site visits, field activities, agency meetings, and public events. A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel up to 20% of time, as needed, are required. Ideally, You'll Also Have Direct experience permitting electric transmission lines, substations, renewable‑energy facilities, pipelines, transportation projects, or other linear infrastructure. Deep experience navigating federal, state, county, and municipal permitting processes. Comprehensive familiarity with environmental review, wetlands, waterways, protected species, vegetation, cultural resources, stormwater, land‑use, and construction‑related permits. Strong working knowledge of NEPA, State Environmental Quality Review processes, Section 401 and 404 of the Clean Water Act, the Endangered Species Act, the National Historic Preservation Act, and comparable state or local requirements. Experience with permitting databases, GIS applications, environmental constraints mapping, and document‑management systems. Experience leading construction compliance programs, permit modifications, agency inspections, or restoration monitoring. Relevant professional registrations or certifications, such as Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS), Certified Environmental Professional (CEP), AICP, OSHA training, or similar credentials. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
