Research and Statistics Technician (Austin)

Who We Are The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) is seeking to fill a Research and Statistics Technician I – II position in the Occupational Employment and Wage Survey (OEWS) unit of the Labor Market Information (LMI) Department, located at 101 E. 15th Street, Austin, TX. The LMI program strives to improve the way Texans make job, career and educational decisions by providing useful and reliable information about careers, educational training options and jobs. LMI provides key economic data about occupations and in-demand industries along with information about labor market trends and economic conditions to help job seekers, employers, economic development entities and local workforce development boards make informed choices. LMI gathers and provides information on the labor market, educational programs and training opportunities along with career planning and career development principles to help its customers evaluate current market trends to design and deliver services to businesses and job seekers. TWC is not considering applications from individuals who require sponsorship for an employment visa, including those with H1B visas or those currently on student or postgraduate visas. You must be a Texas resident to work for the Texas Workforce Commission or willing to relocate to Texas. What You Will Do The Research and Statistics Technician I-II performs moderately complex to highly complex (senior-level) technical research and statistical work. Work involves assisting with collecting, compiling, and interpreting operational research and statistical data used in planning and executing programs. Works under general to limited supervision, with moderate to considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. General Duties Primarily collect and occasionally process occupational employment and wage data for select survey firms under moderate supervision. Refine addresses of survey firms prior to submitting the initial mail file to BLS. Ongoing refinement will include researching addresses for all schedules returned by the post office under moderate supervision. Accurately apply standardized occupational codes and perform thorough review of occupational and wage data for select survey firms under moderate supervision. Performs other duties as assigned. Preferred Qualifications Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills. Front line customer service experience beneficial. For example: retail, service industry, hospitality, call center, etc. Skill in/knowledge of personal computers, Microsoft Office Suite software (Outlook, Access, Excel, Word, etc.) strongly preferred. Knowledge of LMI and BLS programs, products, and services. Ability to prioritize workload and manage time effectively. Able to multi-task, have attention to detail, and have a high degree of accuracy. Able to work in a fast paced, team-oriented environment with an emphasis on excellence and continuous improvement. Bilingual (Spanish) You Qualify With Research and Statistics Technician I: Graduation from an accredited high school or successful completion of GED certification. Acceptance into a TWC Internship or TWC Apprenticeship will satisfy the minimum qualifications. Research and Statistics Technician II: One year of full-time experience in research or statistical work. Relevant academic credits may be applied toward experience qualifications for this position.
