Associate Grant Writer

Position Summary:
The Associate Grant Writer supports the organization's resource development efforts through funding research, grant proposal development, report writing, and impact storytelling. Working under the direction of the Resource Development Manager, this position conducts funding opportunity research, drafts grant applications, letters of inquiry, reports, and other funding-related materials while coordinating with program and finance staff to gather information and supporting documentation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Grant Writing and Proposal Development

• Draft grant proposals, letters of inquiry, concept papers, and funding applications.
• Develop compelling needs statements, program descriptions, implementation plans, and impact narratives.
• Tailor proposals to align with funder priorities, guidelines, and application requirements.
• Prepare first drafts of grant reports and progress updates.
• Assist with development of proposal budgets and budget narratives in collaboration with finance and program staff.
• Revise and strengthen proposal content based on feedback from the Resource Development Manager.

Funding Research and Prospect Development

• Research grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, government agencies, and other funding sources.
• Monitor grant databases, funder websites, and funding alerts.
• Prepare prospect summaries and recommendation memos for potential funding opportunities.
• Assist in maintaining a funding opportunity pipeline.

Data Collection and Impact Reporting

• Coordinate with program staff to gather data, outcomes, participant stories, and other information needed for proposals and reports.
• Translate program outcomes and performance data into clear, compelling narratives.
• Draft impact statements and success stories for funders and stakeholders.
• Assist in the development and maintenance of organizational narrative libraries.

Grant Administration Support

• Track proposal deadlines and reporting requirements.
• Organize grant files and supporting documentation.
• Maintain records of submitted applications and funding decisions.
• Support compliance with funder submission requirements.
• Assist with preparation of reports and materials for monitoring visits and audits.

Collaboration and Communication

• Work closely with program, finance, and leadership staff to ensure proposal accuracy and alignment with organizational priorities.
• Participate in grant planning meetings and strategy discussions.
• Support cross-departmental communication regarding grant requirements and deadlines.

Qualifications:
Education

• Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, Social Work, Business, Marketing, or a related field.

Experience

• One to three years of grant writing, fundraising, nonprofit, communications, research, or related experience preferred.
• Experience drafting professional reports, proposals, or persuasive written documents.
• Demonstrated ability to synthesize information from multiple sources into clear written narratives.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

Compensation and Benefits:

• Salary – $40,000 - $45,000 (Based on Experience)
• Bonus – 10% Based on production goals met
• 100% of premium for health, vision and dental benefits paid by cdcb.
