Day Shift Veterinary Technician - Critical Care

BluePearl Pet Hospital – Brentwood, TN We are hiring experienced Emergency Veterinary Technicians. Pay $21.00 – $41.00 per hour. This band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through our leveling system. Shift differential pay for eligible nights and weekends (minimum 4 hours): Weekday Night (Mon‑Fri 6 PM–8 AM): $3.00 Weekend Day (Sat‑Sun 8 AM–6 PM): $3.00 Weekend Night (Sat‑Sun 6 PM–8 AM): $4.50 Shift Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday 7 AM–7 PM. Job Summary If you are a technician who loves emergency cases and providing care to critically ill or injured patients, we are the place for you. Join our team of experienced technicians, assistants, ER doctors, and specialists to deliver remarkable care. Responsibilities Perform physical examinations: heart rate, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort. Understand normal vital parameters and alert the doctor when abnormal. Perform phlebotomy. Place peripheral intravenous catheters in the cephalic vein. Read and follow orders written on treatment sheets accurately and in a timely manner. Alert the veterinarian if a patient's status changes or if physical exam or monitoring parameters are outside normal ranges. Calculate basic medical math. Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects, and appropriately monitor therapeutic response. Administer medications via appropriate routes and durations. Prepare medications and patients for discharge and communicate discharge instructions to clients. Maintain a solid grasp of common veterinary medical terms and abbreviations and converse with other professionals in medical terms. Address client concerns appropriately during visits, updates, or after hospitalization, and facilitate incoming calls efficiently. Implement animal husbandry skills to decrease disease spread, injury, and stress to patients. Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values. Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications. Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in the designated role as assigned by the attending clinician or supervisor. Why BluePearl? Our passion is pets.
