The Clinical Coordinator will help develop, organize, and facilitate clinical learning experiences for

students. This integral coordination role would include providing adjunct instructors with support, assistance, and evaluative feedback for professional growth. The Clinical Coordinator would be responsible for planning and coordinating student clinical learning experiences. Coordinating the clinical schedule for the academic year, recruitment opportunities, attaining adjunct instructors to fill clinical instructor vacancies, and serving as a primary source of support for adjunct clinical instructors would be key aspects of the role.

 

Qualifications:

1. Minimum of bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university which includes course work in nursing

2. Current active California Registered Nurse license

3. Current CPR certificate

4. Clinical nursing experience

5. Ability to learn new tasks and work with technology (e.g., Microsoft products, ATI, Docucare, etc.)

6. Proficient in Microsoft Office software applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

7. Effective organization, communication, and interpersonal skills required

8. Demonstrate effective teaching skills

9. Minimum of one year’s continuous full-time or its equivalent experience providing direct patient care as a registered nurse

10. Ability to work effectively independently and in groups

Essential Functions:

1. Organize, coordinate, and participate in the recruitment of needed adjunct instructors and board-approved clinical facilities throughout the academic year

2. Coordinate and facilitate the adjunct instructor approval processes for various health care facilities

3. Organize, develop, and continually update a master schedule of clinical timeframes, clinical instructors, and locations throughout the academic year

4. Liaison between clinical sites, course coordinators, and clinical adjunct instructors with a primary focus on the support and development of clinical adjunct instructors

5. Responsible for organizing and maintaining non-contractual healthcare facility paperwork

6. Coordinate clinical adjunct orientation each academic year, including the integration of continued education credit

7. Serve as primary contact for adjunct clinical instructors (to support both the adjunct instructor and course coordinator)

8. Visit adjunct instructors at the clinical site weekly to provide support

9. Communicate adjunct needs to the course coordinator

10. Support adjuncts instructors with evaluation of clinical paperwork and adherence to both SU and the healthcare facilities policies

11. Provide adjunct instructors with evaluative feedback for professional growth

12. Assist in skills onboarding, simulations, and remediation as necessary

13. Tour and reach out to clinical sites for clinical experiences on an on-going basis

14. Ability to develop relationships with clinical facility leaders through effective communication

15. Coordinate education and training for adjunct instructors

16. Share about program updates and changes with adjunct instructors as appropriate

17. Coordinate with nursing faculty and instructors to resolve discrepancies

18. Maintain a working knowledge of the clinical paperwork, assignments, policies, and student evaluation process for clinical courses

19. Develop an evaluation process for adjuncts to promote professional growth in adjunct role

20. Provide clinical adjunct instructors with evaluative feedback at the midterm and upon completion of the course

21. Oversight and evaluation of the clinical coordinator role

22. Regular attendance at the annual Regional Clinical Planning Meetings

23. Liaison to address clinical overlaps (when unscheduled students from other schools are on the same unit as SU students)

24. Participate in program marketing and recruitment (both within and outside of healthcare)

25. Participate in university and program committees and subcommittees as assigned

26. Regularly attend university faculty meetings

27. Advise students as assigned

28. Demonstrate effective communication skills to constituent groups

29. Assist with the recruitment of adjunct faculty

30. Participate in New Student Orientations and admissions activities

31. Participate in organizing and conducting departmental, adjunct faculty and/or site supervisor meetings

32. Provide insight into matters impacting the curriculum as it relates to clinical learning

33. Assist with program and department review and evaluation activities

34. Assist program director with the overall management of the program

35. All other duties as assigned

Sitting and standing

Standard workday requires various abilities including standing, walking, sitting, bending, flexing, lifting, twisting, stooping, kneeling, reaching, stretching, pushing, and pulling to gather and stock supplies, operate equipment (computers, various types of medical devices, hospital beds, etc.), and perform required functions of patient care. Often must lift, carry, or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Occasionally must assist patient position, transfer, or transport requiring lifting more than 40 pounds.

Gross and fine motor abilities sufficient to perform required functions of patient care; hand-wrist movement, hand-eye coordination, and simple firm grasping required for fine motor-skills and manipulation; fine and gross finger dexterity required.
