Job Description

The Development & Communications Specialist serves as an integral team member of the Fund Development Department; contributes to the overall planning and implementation of fundraising goals and strategies; and coordinates special events, campaign activities, and overall communication efforts. The ideal candidate will have a passion for Kin On’s vision, mission and values, a heart to serve the Asian elderly community, and a desire to grow their fundraising skills and nonprofit knowledge.

 

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Annual Giving
  • Help increase donor base and overall contributions by cultivating donations under $1000
  • Coordinate annual giving campaigns, including but not limited to, writing direct appeal letters, year-end giving campaign, online/social media campaigns, employee giving campaigns, etc.
  • Manage Kin On’s external giving platfroms including, workplace giving, donor advised funds, and other giving platforms; ensuring Kin On is properly registered and keeping up with annual renewals
• Event Coordination
  • Lead or collaborate with a team on fundraisers and special events, including but not limited to sports turnaments, benefit dinner, donor engagement events, etc.
  • Strategize how best to utilize events to cultivate, solicit and steward donors/donations
  • Serve as a liaison with community groups/members to ensure 3rd party fundraising events to benefit Kin On are executed effectively and successfully
• Communications
  • Work across program departments to gather and write impact stories to use for direct mail appeals, campaign communications, website, etc.
  • Help maintain and strategize ways to grow Kin On’s brand awareness including, but not limited to, participating in promotional and marketing activities such as health/charity fairs and community events; ordering branded giveaways for staff, volunteers, and the community
  • Contribute to communications tools/channels such as donor newsletters, website, social media, etc
• Data Entry and Donor Acknowledgement
  • Work with the Salesforce consultant to maintain the donor database
  • Coordinate with team members to ensure all donations are entered into the database accurately
  • Work with team members to ensure acknowledgement letters/receipts are sent in a timely manner and all donors are appropriately thanked, recognized and stewarded on a timely and personal manner
  • Assist in running donor reports as needed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree in related field
• 2-3 years of experience in fundraising, major event planning, relationship building, and/or project management
• Certification or related training in fund development, event planning, familiar with general fundraising concepts, best practices and industry standards
• Proven proficiency in Word, Excel, and other Microsoft Office applications
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, works well with people of diverse backgrounds
• Detail-oriented, organized, able to multitask and perform well in a fast-paced environment
• Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and driven for success
• Candidate must be authorized to work in the United States.

• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from individuals, groups, volunteers, employees, managers, clients, customers and the general public
• Ability to work collaboratively and independently with a focus on completing tasks within a timely manner
• Experience with Salesforce or other donor database software a significant plus
• Experience managing social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, etc.), website content management (i.e. WordPress) and familiarity with design tools (i.e. Canva) and email marketing platforms (Mailchimp, etc.) a plus
• Bilingual in Chinese and English a significant plus, but not required

 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

• Pay: $27.00/hour - $31.00/hour

This role interacts with a community-based organization. Work is performed within a normal office environment with potential to work remotely at times.
