Job Summary
The Environmental & Air Compliance Specialist supports and maintains environmental and air-quality compliance across operating assets by providing technical and regulatory support for air permitting, emissions reporting, inspections, audits, and compliance programs. The role collaborates with Management, Operations, Engineering, HSE teams, consultants, and regulatory agencies to ensure facilities comply with applicable federal, state, and local environmental requirements.
Job Description
- Work Air Compliance & Permitting
- Support air permitting and compliance activities for gathering, processing, compression, and other midstream facilities.
- Maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, and local air-quality regulations and facility-specific permit requirements.
- Review existing air permits and determine applicability of regulatory requirements to company operations and equipment.
- Support preparation, modification, renewal, and maintenance of air permits.
- Assist with permit applications, permit amendments, permit revisions, and regulatory correspondence.
- Monitor changes in environmental and air regulations and evaluate their potential impact on company operations.
- Assist all other departments in understanding and implementing air-permit requirements.
- Emissions & Regulatory Reporting
- Prepare and/or review air emissions calculations and emissions inventories.
- Collect operational data necessary to calculate emissions from equipment and facilities.
- Support required regulatory reporting and recordkeeping.
- Maintain accurate environmental compliance records and documentation.
- Assist with preparation of regulatory reports, certifications, notifications, and other required environmental submittals.
- Track compliance deadlines and ensure required reports are completed and submitted on time.
- Review monitoring, testing, inspection, and operating records for compliance with permit requirements.
- Compliance Audits & Field Support
- Conduct or assist with facility inspections, environmental audits, and compliance assessments.
- Perform on-site evaluations to determine compliance with air permits and applicable environmental regulations.
- Identify potential compliance deficiencies and work with Operations to develop corrective actions.
- Track corrective actions through completion.
- Assist with regulatory inspections and agency audits.
- Visit remote field facilities and gathering/compression assets as necessary.
- Evaluate facility operations, equipment, records, and environmental controls to identify potential compliance issues.
- Operational & Technical Support
- Work directly with Management, Operations, and field personnel to address environmental compliance questions.
- Provide guidance regarding air permits, monitoring requirements, recordkeeping, reporting, and regulatory obligations to all levels of team memebers
- Assist with evaluating proposed operational or equipment changes for environmental implications.
- Support environmental compliance during construction, maintenance, startup, shutdown, and other operational activities.
- Assist in investigating environmental incidents, spills, releases, and potential air-emission events.
- Coordinate with environmental consultants and other third-party service providers as needed.
- Maintain environmental databases, tracking systems, spreadsheets, and compliance documentation.
Skills Required
- Relevant professional experience in environmental compliance, air permitting, environmental consulting,
- Relevant professional experience in the midstream oil & gas industry.
- Experience with air permitting and regulatory compliance preferred.
- Experience working with industrial facilities, natural gas facilities, compression facilities, pipelines, tanks, or other oil-and-gas infrastructure preferred.
- Experience interpreting environmental regulations and translating requirements into operational compliance practices.
- Experience with emissions calculations, environmental reporting, or emissions inventories preferred.
- Strong understanding of environmental regulations and compliance requirements.
- Ability to interpret air permits and regulatory requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to perform and/or review emissions calculations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple compliance obligations and deadlines.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating with Operations and HSE teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to communicate technical environmental requirements to non-environmental personnel.
- Ability to travel to field facilities as required.
Education/Training/Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or another related scientific/engineering discipline.

- The position would likely involve a combination of office/administrative work and field work
- Field activities may involve:
- Travel to midstream oil and gas facilities.
- Walking around operating facilities.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions.
- Climbing stairs and walking over uneven terrain.
- Working around operating equipment and industrial facilities.
- Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE).
