The position provides strategic direction, financial governance, financial risk management, and fiscal advisement related to accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, compliance, and long-range financial planning. This position is primarily remote, with a work schedule consisting of 8-hour workdays between the hours of 8:00 am – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. However, due to supervisory responsibilities for payroll staff, the employee may be required to travel to the Salem office as frequently as once per week. In addition, the incumbent will be expected to be physically at the central workplace located at 550 Capitol St. NE in Salem, Oregon, at least six (6) times per year. This includes attendance at pre-scheduled in-person all-staff meetings. The position may also be required to work at the central workplace on a more frequent basis with advance notice, as needed. WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOUYou will be a member of a diverse team built on collaboration and support.We offer full medical, vision, and dental benefits with paid sick leave, vacation leave, personal leave, and 11 paid holidays a year.This is a full-time, management service position that is not represented by a union.WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR For Accounting Manager 2 Classification:Six years of supervision, management, or progressively related experience; OR three years of related experience and a bachelor’s degree in a related field.For Accounting Manager 1 Classification:Five years of lead work, supervision, or progressively related experience; OR two years of related experience and a bachelor’s degree in a related field.The most successful candidate will also have the following skills, experience, and background:Extensive experience personally performing complex governmental accounting work within Oregon state government, including performing complex accounting functions such as financial reporting, reconciliations, year-end close, internal controls, and resolving complex accounting issues. Demonstrated experience developing, reviewing, analyzing, or overseeing indirect cost allocation methodologies, cost allocation plans, or federally compliant indirect rates.Strong working knowledge of Oregon accounting policies, DAS statewide financial management applications (SFMA, Workday, etc.), the Oregon Accounting Manual (OAM), and statewide fiscal requirements.Experience researching complex accounting issues, interpreting accounting standards, and developing practical, compliant solutions.Proven ability to identify process improvements, streamline workflows, strengthen internal controls, and implement sustainable business practices.Experience leading accounting operations while remaining actively engaged in complex technical accounting work.Demonstrated success managing competing priorities, meeting multiple reporting deadlines, and applying strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.Studies have shown that women, trans, non-binary, Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color are less likely to apply for positions unless they believe they meet all the desired attributes.
