Tutor Position

Ledyard Public Schools is seeking a tutor to support students during periods when homebound or alternative instruction is necessary. Tutors assist students in achieving student learning objectives by working directly with identified students who are not attending school for various reasons. The successful candidate will possess content specific knowledge and skills, effective interpersonal skills, demonstrated organizational ability, attention to detail, and proven experience working with elementary school age children preferred.

Roles and responsibilities include keeping abreast of current theory, research and best practices in reading, seeking out professional development, collecting/analyzing both formative and summative data under the guidance of the literacy teachers and collaborating with teachers about results for purposes of planning instruction, using data to shape instruction and make decisions about tiered interventions, providing direct instruction to students who are in a tiered intervention, participating in MTSS process and sharing student data and progress towards goals, communicating with parents and families, and providing families with strategies and resources they can use at home.

Qualifications include appropriate CT Elementary Teaching Certification, demonstrated excellence in teaching the subject area, evidence of ability to work cooperatively with administrators, teachers and paraprofessionals, strong understanding of the developmental needs of young adolescents, enthusiasm for teaching and learning, and a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
