Overhead Crane Operator

The Material Handler safely loads and unloads heavy metal parts, transports them across the production floor using sit-down forklifts, and prepares them for shipment. This role plays a key part in maintaining efficient material flow, accurate inventory, and high-quality packaging in a large manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload heavy metal parts safely and efficiently using sit-down forklifts.
• Transport large parts throughout various areas of the production floor while following all safety procedures.
• Rig and secure large parts properly for movement within the facility and for shipment.
• Secure large parts to trucks to ensure safe and stable transport during delivery.
• Label parts accurately for shipment according to established standards and documentation requirements.
• Inspect parts for damage or defects prior to packaging and shipment.
• Package parts securely to prevent damage in transit and meet customer and internal quality expectations.
• Document inventory levels and outgoing shipments using computer systems and software.
• Follow all material handling, shipping, and receiving procedures to maintain accurate records and efficient workflow.
• Operate overhead cranes, when applicable, to move large or heavy parts safely.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area to support safety and productivity.
• Adhere to all safety guidelines, including use of required personal protective equipment.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of experience operating sit-down forklifts with large parts in a production or manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated ability to safely load and unload heavy materials.
• Experience with material handling and shipping and receiving processes.
• Ability to accurately document inventory levels and shipments in computer systems.
• Willingness to learn rigging techniques and overhead crane operation if not already experienced.
• Strong attention to detail when inspecting, labeling, and packaging parts.
• Ability to follow safety protocols and use required protective equipment.
• Comfort working with large metal parts in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience operating 1020 ton overhead cranes is a strong plus.
• Experience rigging large parts for movement and shipment.
• Familiarity with heavy industrial manufacturing environments.
• Basic computer skills for data entry and inventory documentation.
• Reliability and consistent attendance to support production schedules.
• Ability to work effectively on a 2nd shift schedule (2:00 p.m. 10:00 p.m.).

Work Environment

This role is based in a large manufacturing environment on 2nd shift, running from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The work involves handling heavy metal parts, operating sit-down forklifts, and potentially using overhead cranes, all within an industrial production floor setting. Steel-toed shoes are required, and appropriate hearing protection is used to manage noise levels. The environment is fast-paced and safety-focused, with established procedures and equipment designed for heavy material handling.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $54080.00 - $54080.00/yr.
