Health Actuary

Key Responsibilities The Health actuary is responsible for performing as the lead Health Practice technical resource providing expertise in areas including modeling development and evaluation, rate setting, reserve calculations, and plan/design analysis. The actuary will work closely with other Health consultants to service client needs. Performing as the primary or secondary consultant (as needed) on Health Practice projects related to financial/actuarial modeling, pricing/rating or underwriting and other actuarial work for clients. Acting as a technical resource on Health and Welfare design, financing and managed care issues, providing colleagues both inside and outside the practice with an actuarial perspective on relevant inquiries; and participating in training and mentoring initiatives involving junior staff, with an emphasis on developing an understanding of actuarial modeling techniques. Building and maintaining effective collaborative working relationships with colleagues, actuaries and consultants from other practices and client staff both up and down respective organizations. Supporting actuarial consulting projects to include: review and analysis of data, establishing or reviewing actuarial models, training and development of Health Practice personnel and supporting new business development efforts. Qualifications Actuary with 6 or more years of health actuarial experience and preferably 7–10 years of health and welfare managed care experience within a consulting and/or professional service environment. Holds an ASA or FSA credential (candidates with credit for 5 or more SOA courses will also be considered, at an Actuarial Associate level). Corporate or insurance company experience may be acceptable provided the individual has prior consulting experience that is immediately transferable to a consulting environment (project management, client service focus, strategic/creative problem solving, business advisory orientation to addressing plan design/technical aspects of health and welfare and managed care plans, etc.). Demonstrated project management experience/skills. Demonstrated skills as an effective communicator (oral/written). Collaborative work ethic. The current salary range for this position is $101,500–$130,000 plus opportunity for a discretionary performance bonus based on company profitability and employee performance.
