Job Summary Position is responsible for safely and efficiently delivering a rapid response aero‑medical team via Life Flight helicopters and for transporting patients to appropriate facilities for further treatment under VFR and IFR. Job Description Join our pioneering helicopter air ambulance company and fly the modern Airbus BK 117 D-3 (H145) helicopters, designed for optimal medical transport efficiency. We offer currently comprehensive 30-40 hours of on-the-job training in house side by side with an experienced check airman, ensuring absolute readiness for every mission. Additionally after a minimum of three (03) years of employment, you may be considered to receive specialized Airbus H160 flight training and transition to operate the world's first H160 medical configuration . Transition to the H160B aircraft will be based on Seniority and Operational slots availability. As non‑profit hospital‑based program, all aviation and medical employees work directly for Memorial Hermann. Memorial Hermann expects pilots to pass ATP checkride with 2 years of employment start date paid for by Memorial Hermann. Minimum Qualifications Education: (None) Licenses/Certifications: Commercial, Instrument, Helicopter License Second Class FAA Medical Certificate required, First Class FAA medical certificate preferred Passed the Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) written test Experience / Knowledge / Skills: 1500 hours Pilot-in Command of a turbine helicopter required, 3,000 hours Pilot-in-Command of a turbine helicopter preferred 200 hours of night helicopter PIC experience required, 300 hours of night helicopter PIC experience preferred 75 Hours Helicopter IFR required; 100 hours helicopter IFR preferred SPIFR experience preferred Principal Accountabilities Maintains a standby readiness while on duty to ensure rapid response times in accordance with department policy. Operates emergency air ambulance transport service in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), hospital, and department policies, regulations, and standards. Performs all flight procedures, techniques, and skills necessary to effect the safe, efficient delivery of medical personnel to hospital or accident sites, and the transportation of acutely ill and/or critically traumatized patients to tertiary care facilities. Performs non-medical refueling, test, public relations, and crew orientation flights as requested. Maintains constant communications with Flight Operations Communication Center during flight mission; communicates as necessary with Emergency Services personnel, receiving hospital communications center, and air traffic controllers. Inspects all major mechanical, operational, and control systems, as well as all components, and reviews aircraft records to determine pre-flight condition and certify airworthiness. Checks weather reports, fuel requirements, and log books prior to mission. Completes all forms, records, charts, load manifest signatures, and Minimum Equipment Lists as required. Maintains current information on federal regulations, advisories, and procedures. Prepares for semi-annual Federal Aviation tests and pilot training program as necessary. Travels to satellite bases for flight relief duty as assigned. Attends departmental and pilot meetings. Maintains clean aircraft and workplace. Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service. Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education, skills competency, supports department‑based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
