MG Ultrasound Technologist

SUMMARY

Under general supervision and following established protocols, operates Ultrasound imaging equipment to acquire diagnostic images for physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of pathologies. Performs in accordance with the facility's policies and procedures, follows the standards for ethical business conduct, and demonstrates a positive role model and team member. Participates in facility committees, meetings, in‑services, and activities. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Operate Ultrasound Imaging equipment to obtain diagnostic images and information. Ensure the patient is properly prepared, obtain a relevant patient history, and assure proper positioning. Select appropriate imaging techniques and follow department protocols to provide a complete study. Document the exam completely and provide the Radiologist with an initial interpretation. Maintain knowledge of illnesses related to the patient population and types of care provided to deliver appropriate images. Explain the exam to the patient, considering physical and emotional needs while upholding patient confidentiality and privacy. Maintain a clean work area, prepare equipment and supplies, and inform personnel when orders need placement. Participate in quality assurance, improvement projects, and cost containment measures. Remain flexible for shift coverage and overtime as necessary. Use independent judgment under pressure when performing patient procedures. Utilize aseptic sterile technique for invasive procedures and assist the Radiologist or Physician as needed. Maintain supplies for procedures in a clean, organized manner. Establish effective working relations and communication with departmental personnel and the community. Know operation of all equipment used during the workday, including imaging equipment, film processors, and systems for appointments and reports. Notify personnel of equipment malfunctions and initiate repairs as needed. Execute paperwork for each patient exam, including CPT codes and verifying physician order sheets. Stay current on imaging developments and trends by reading manuals and technical journals. Participate in educational programs, maintain CEUs, attend staff meetings, and in‑service education. May oversee and instruct personnel and students as assigned by the Imaging Manager. Provide indirect supervision of support staff and perform all other duties as directed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must have interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients who may be under physical and/or emotional stress. Must possess analytical abilities necessary to acquire and utilize knowledge of imaging processes, techniques, and cross‑sectional anatomy. Must present a positive attitude and maintain a professional appearance in compliance with the dress code. Must have ARDMS Certification or be ARDMS eligible (erasable as a graduate of an accredited ultrasound program with a minimum of 12 months full‑time clinical experience). Working Conditions Must be aware of department hazards and adhere to OSHA safety standards. Must be capable of implementing a patient code, reporting, and responding to emergencies. Duties frequently require walking, standing, reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and speaking or hearing. Occasional sitting may occur. Possible exposure to infectious agents, blood, and bodily fluids. Reasonable accommodations may be made for disabilities.
