Software QA / Test Automation Engineer (BH-397703) Location Palo Alto, United States • Sector Engineering • Salary $60.00 to $90.00 per hour Software QA / Test Automation Engineer We are seeking a highly skilled Software QA / Test Automation Engineer to validate our next-generation connected vehicle ecosystem. In this role, your primary scope will span mobile-to-cloud and cloud-to-vehicle environments. You will design and execute test strategies at both the component level and end-to-end (E2E), ensuring the seamless flow of data across mobile apps, cloud services, vehicle middleware, and hardware interfaces. The ideal candidate possesses a strong white-box testing mindset, deep experience with Python-based API automation, and hands-on familiarity with IoT/automotive messaging protocols like MQTT and Protobufs (protos). Key Responsibilities End-to-End & Component Validation: Design, develop, and execute comprehensive test strategies for RESTful APIs, cloud microservices, and vehicle interfaces. Validate end-to-end data flows from mobile applications, through backend cloud services, down to vehicle hardware. Protocol & Messaging Testing: Validate high-frequency, low-latency data transport, serialization, and messaging layers, specifically working with MQTT brokers and Protobuf (protos) payloads. Middleware & VHAL Integration: Test and verify internal vehicle middleware services, signal translations, and the Vehicle Hardware Abstraction Layer (VHAL) to ensure seamless hardware/software interaction. Test Automation Development: Design, scale, and maintain robust test automation frameworks using Python (e.g., PyTest, Requests) to maximize test coverage and reduce manual regression efforts. Deep-Dive Troubleshooting: Perform root-cause analysis of complex, distributed system failures. Utilize system logs, network traces, metrics, and debugging tools to isolate issues across cloud services, networks, and vehicle ECUs. CI/CD & Continuous Testing: Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins) to support continuous validation of cloud and embedded software releases. Robustness & Edge-Case Testing: Analyse system behavior and data integrity across platform upgrades, network transitions, power cycles, and complex state changes. Required Skills & Experience Connected Ecosystems: Proven experience validating complex, distributed "system-of-systems" products, with a specific focus on mobile-to-cloud and cloud-to-vehicle communication flows. Testing Granularity: Deep understanding of how to perform both isolated component-level testing (mocking dependencies where necessary) and integrated end-to-end (E2E) testing. Protocols & Serialization: Hands‑on experience working with MQTT messaging and Protobufs (protos) serialization formats. Middleware & VHAL: Experience validating vehicle middleware, signal routing, and hardware/software abstraction layers (VHAL). Python Automation: Strong programming skills in Python with practical experience building automation frameworks for API, backend, and data validation. White‑Box Testing Mindset: Ability to analyze system architecture, internal data flows, and code dependencies to design highly targeted, risk-based test plans. Technical Debugging: Excellent triaging skills with the ability to produce actionable defect reports containing precise reproduction steps, logs, traces, and payload analyses. Environment Experience: Strong familiarity with Linux environments, command-line tools, system services, and basic networking configurations.
