Substance Use Disorder Family Specialist Some families are one crisis away from losing everything — their children, their stability, their hope. You could be the person who shows up for them. Wellspring is looking for a compassionate, skilled social worker to join our behavioral health team serving Macomb and Oakland counties as a  Substance Use Disorder Family Specialist . In this role, you'll work alongside parents whose substance use has put their families at risk — not to judge them, but to walk with them through one of the hardest chapters of their lives. You'll sit in living rooms. You'll listen. You'll celebrate a parent's first sober week and steady them through a relapse. You'll help a family find food, housing, and treatment — and then teach them how to advocate for those things themselves. This is meaningful, demanding, human work. • Building trust with parents who may be resistant, overwhelmed, or in active addiction — and using motivational interviewing to meet them where they are
• Assessing the whole family: housing, income, mental health, safety, and the parent's understanding of how substance use is affecting their children
• Developing individualized plans that address both immediate risks and longer-term recovery — and revisiting them as families grow
• Connecting families to the right community resources — treatment, domestic violence services, mental health, early intervention — and helping them navigate those systems confidently
• Providing education on the disease model of addiction, relapse prevention, and the impact of substance use on parenting and child development
• Completing timely documentation: treatment plans, court reports, closure summaries — the paperwork that protects families and ensures quality care
• Collaborating with MDHHS, courts, and community partners to keep children safe and families together whenever possible

You'll carry a manageable caseload, receive regular clinical supervision, and be part of a team that genuinely supports one another. Who you are

• You hold a master's degree in social work, counseling, psychology or a related field — or a bachelor's degree with strong, directly relevant experience. (A master's degree is strongly preferred for this role.)
• You have experience working with individuals and families affected by substance use, trauma, or child welfare involvement
• You're familiar with evidence-based approaches — motivational interviewing, stages of change, relapse prevention — and know how to apply them flexibly with real people
• You're a strong communicator who can write clear documentation, work across disciplines, and build rapport quickly with people in crisis
• You hold a valid driver's license, have reliable transportation, and are comfortable with in-home visits across Macomb and Oakland counties
• Within three months of hire, you'll begin working toward your CADC or CAADC certification through an MCBAP - approved development plan — we'll pay for it

Compensation & schedule

• Annual salary: $51,500 – $58,500 based on education, experience & certification
• Sign-on bonus: $500 for current CADC / CAADC (new hires only)
• Schedule: Hybrid / home-based, with weekly in-office meetings; in-home client visits; some on-call
• Pay flexibility: DailyPay allows you to access earned wages before payday
