Hartford, Connecticut, United States Posted: Sep 03, 2025 Salary: $66,976.00 – $70,993.00 annually USD Description Vacancy in the Facilities Division of the Public Works Department. The role involves operation, maintenance and repair of HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, lighting, pumps, diesel emergency generator, plumbing systems and related supportive systems. Responsibilities include performing preventive maintenance, inspections, chemical additions, logging daily inspections, and reporting to supervisor. Responsibilities Operate, maintain and repair heating, ventilating, air‑conditioning and rink refrigeration equipment. Operate, maintain and repair electrical switchgear, electric motors, lighting and related systems. Operate, maintain and repair pumps, sump pumps, diesel emergency generator, heat exchanger, fan coil systems, plumbing systems and fixtures. Place HVAC and ice‑producing equipment in operation, checking gauges for water, refrigerant, pressure; inspect for leaks and faulty functioning; regulate service. Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, sample testing, chemical additions, and corrective actions for all support systems. Inspect systems intermittently to ensure proper functioning, take corrective action and report unusual conditions. Operate electrical plug‑ins for tradeshows and other events at the Civic Center. Run‑up, inspection and preventive maintenance of diesel emergency generator. Record inspections and services in a daily log. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of Heating, ventilating, air‑conditioning and refrigeration equipment operation, maintenance, repair methods, tools and materials. Electrical and plumbing maintenance trades practices, tools. Occupational hazards and safety precautions for building equipment maintenance and repair. Ability to Interpret sketches, diagrams, technical orders, manufacturer’s manuals and specifications. Troubleshoot and repair complex HVAC, electrical, plumbing systems and supportive systems. Maintain records and report. Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing. Qualifications Graduation from standard high or vocational school with at least one course in air conditioning, practical electricity, electrical theory and refrigeration. Three (3) years of experience in operation, maintenance and repair of electrical and mechanical building systems. Degree or transcript must be attached and verified by HR. Physical examination, drug/alcohol screening, background check and a 12‑month probation period required.
