Laboratory Technician I

Job Title: Laboratory Technician I Pay Rate: $23.75/hr. Location: Sylmar, California Benefits On the job training, with cross training for other skilled positions and opportunities for advancement. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepare test specimens, machine test coupons and perform mechanical tests in support of acceptance test requirements for production programs. Responsible for preventative maintenance and proper operation of test lab equipment along with managing electronic test records. Assist in calibration services on Programmable Logic Controller (PLCs) and Chart Recorders.

REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma with 2+ years in a technical field or a 2-4 year technical degree. Ability to follow equipment-operating procedures in order to perform quality acceptance testing. Mechanical fabrication and assembly skills are required including proper use of power tools such as a band saw, drill press, router table, mill, and lathe. Use of standard hand held measuring instruments, including calipers, micrometers, etc. Computer literacy skills/background, comfortable with the electronic spreadsheets (Excel) and use of general word processing software.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Physical effort including standing, lifting, and carrying equipment up to 50 lbs unassisted. Able to work in outdoor environments as needed.

PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Foreign language proficiency. 2-4 technical degree (or working towards such). Able to work independently and efficiently with minimal supervision. Organized individual with good attention to detail.

CONTACT WITH OTHERS

Will be working with and under the Test Lab Supervisor and Test Lab Engineers.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

70% in the lab and working at a bench. 20% at a desk record keeping.

EQUIPMENT UTILIZED

Power tools such as a band saw, drill press, router table, mill, and lathe. Test Equipment such as universal tensile machines and ovens. Hand held calibration equipment - Thermocouple calibrator, data acquisition units. PLCs - controllers used in ovens and autoclaves for pressure and temperature control.
