Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical skills and be committed to providing exceptional patient care in a telemetry unit setting.

Shift and Scheduling

• Shift Type: 12-hour Days
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirements: Must be available to work 2 of the 3 major holidays

Unit Information

The Telemetry unit consists of split sections including Tele I on the 7th & 8th floors and Tele II on the 6th floor, which is further divided into Central and North units. The 7th floor has 44 beds, while the 6th floor has 32 beds distributed across two units.

Patient Care Details

• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 1:4 (1:3 on the 6N unit)
• Common Diagnoses: Cardiac conditions, Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), Chest Pain (CP), Pneumonia, Respiratory issues, Sepsis

Qualifications

• Years of Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a Critical Care Unit (CCU) or high-end step-down unit; telemetry experience preferred. First-time travelers are welcome.
• Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and EKG interpretation
• Experience in titrating drips is required, and candidates must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips.

Specific Skills & Responsibilities

• Titration of drips including Cardizem and heparin. Experience with dobutamine and amiodarone is preferred but not required.
• Ventilator management experience is not required, but familiarity with patient care technology is a plus, as the 6N unit includes ventilators.
• Patient Care Technicians are available to support nursing staff.

Additional Information

Travelers are typically prioritized for floating. All telemetry nurses other than those on the 6N unit will float to Med Surg or Rehabilitation units, while 6N nurses will float to ICU/CCU. Strong customer service skills and a team-oriented approach are essential. Each unit has its own unique dynamics:

• Tele I is a highly selective unit, requiring strong candidates.
• The 6th floor fosters a tight-knit community but may present interpersonal challenges.
• The 8th floor is known to be particularly demanding with quick requests for assistance.
