Salary: $27–$30 per hour | $64,000 upon conversion

Job Description:

A global leader in geotechnical construction and deep foundation solutions is seeking an Accounting Assistant to join its Chicago team on a temp-to-permanent basis.

With more than 100 years of experience in North America and over 50 offices across the U.S. and Canada, the company is a well-established industry leader known for delivering innovative and practical solutions to complex construction challenges.

This is a strong opportunity for a detail-oriented administrative or accounting professional who has hands-on payroll experience and wants to broaden their exposure to additional accounting functions. The role will be heavily focused on payroll administration while also supporting accounts payable and other accounting processes.

A college degree is not required. The team is primarily looking for someone with relevant payroll and administrative experience, strong computer skills, good tenure, and the ability to learn quickly.

Key Responsibilities

• Enter shop time hours on a weekly basis.
• Assist with the review and submission of salaried and union field payroll.
• Support payroll administration and ensure time and payroll information is accurate.
• Assist with layoff checks as needed.
• Review checks and payroll documentation for accuracy.
• Assist with certified payroll reporting.
• Support monthly OCIP/CCIP reporting.
• Process accounts payable transactions.
• Review invoices and assist with AP-related documentation.
• Maintain accurate payroll and accounting records.
• Assist with additional accounting and administrative projects as needed.
• Learn and support additional accounting processes as the role develops.

Qualifications

• Previous payroll administration experience is required.
• Experience within construction, manufacturing, or another field-based workforce environment is strongly preferred.
• Accounts payable experience is preferred.
• Strong administrative and computer skills.
• Comfortable working with Microsoft Excel, Adobe/PDF documents, and related office technology.
• Ability to learn an ERP system and new accounting software.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Highly organized and dependable with consistent follow-through.
• Self-motivated and comfortable managing recurring deadlines.
• Strong job tenure and demonstrated reliability.
• Able to work effectively within a fast-paced accounting environment.
• An accounting or associate degree is helpful but not required ; equivalent practical experience will be considered.
