Roofing Laborer

The Roofing Laborer assists roofing crews in the installation, repair, and replacement of residential and commercial roofing systems. This entry-level apprenticeship position is responsible for supporting journeyman roofers and foremen by preparing work sites, handling materials, and performing hands-on labor under supervision. The ideal candidate is physically fit, dependable, and committed to working safely at heights.

Key Responsibilities:

• Load, unload, and transport roofing materials such as clay and concrete tiles, slate, copper sheeting, flashing, underlayment, and insulation to work areas.
• Assist in the installation and removal of premium roofing systems including clay and concrete tile, natural slate, and copper roof systems.
• Operate equipment and hand tools safely and effectively.
• Prepare roof surfaces by stripping old materials, replacing wood decking, and applying underlayment.
• Set up scaffolding, ladders, and safety harness systems in compliance with OSHA standards.
• Apply roofing materials, sealants, and adhesives as directed by the lead roofer or foreman.
• Remove debris and maintain a clean, organized job site throughout the workday.
• Assist with flashing installation around chimneys, vents, skylights, and edges.
• Follow all company safety policies and procedures at all times.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications:

Required:

• High school diploma or GED preferred; not required.
• Ability to work safely at heights (up to 30+ feet).
• Strong physical stamina - must be able to lift 50+ lbs repeatedly and work in all weather conditions.
• Reliable transportation to job sites.
• Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and early mornings as project schedules demand.

Preferred:

• 1+ year of roofing, construction, or general labor experience.
• OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety certification.
• Familiarity with roofing materials, tools, and installation techniques.
• Valid driver's license.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to climb ladders and work on steep-slope roofs common with tile, slate, and copper installations.
• Must be able to crouch, kneel, and work in confined or awkward positions.
• Frequent lifting, carrying, and moving of heavy materials (50–80 lbs).
• Tolerance for working in extreme heat, cold, wind, and humidity.
• Ability to stand, walk, and perform manual labor for 8–10 hours per day.

Work Environment:
