BGS Emergency Preparedness Specialist

OverviewThe Department of Building and General Services - Office of Safety & Security is seeking an Emergency Preparedness Specialist who can assist state office Safety Committees to establish, update, and refine Emergency Procedure Plans (EPP) to identify, prevent, mitigate, and respond to emergencies, risks, and hazards. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills and have experience in emergency planning, making presentations, conducting training, and facilitating drills and exercises. Instructor certification in CPR and First Aid is highly desirable.Firefighting, EMT, law enforcement, emergency dispatching, or certain military experience is preferred but not required.Applicants must successfully complete a fingerprint-supported criminal background check prior to employment.Who May ApplyThis position, BGS Emergency Preparedness Specialist (Job Requisition #55703), is open to all State employees and external applicants. You must apply online to be considered.Environmental FactorsDuties require travel throughout the State, for which requires a valid Vermont driver's license. Private means of transportation may be required. Duties are generally performed in an office setting; however, exposure to dangerous situations is occasionally encountered. Incumbent may be exposed to objectionable material and information as part of the investigative process. Incumbent may occasionally be exposed to adverse weather conditions, hostile people, and people displaying mental health behaviors. Expected to move and carry various equipment in the performance of their duties. Response to emergencies may require the incumbent to run, walk or stand for long periods of time, lift/move obstacles or barriers and wear a uniform. Duties may not always adhere to a standard daily or weekly schedule and there is potential for occasional no-notice overtime.Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree AND two (2) years of experience in instruction of law enforcement, security, or emergency response work. OR Four (4) years of experience in instruction of law enforcement, security, or emergency response work.Preferred QualificationsInstructor level certifications in the areas of Active Shooter, Stop-the-Bleed, First Aid/CPR; or the ability to obtain such training within 6 months.
