The Refrigeration Service Technician installs, services, and maintains a wide range of commercial refrigeration equipment, including walk-in coolers, reach-in refrigerators, freezers, ice makers, and related systems. This role focuses on field-based troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance across multiple brands and refrigerant types, ensuring reliable operation for customers in restaurants, bars, commercial buildings, markets, schools, and other facilities throughout Michigan.ResponsibilitiesInstall, repair, and perform scheduled preventive maintenance on walk-in coolers, reach-in refrigerators, freezers, ice makers, and other commercial refrigeration equipment.Service and support multiple refrigeration and cooler brands, including True, Krown Tonka, Kramer, XDX, Bohn, McCall, Heatcraft, Russell, Master Built, and similar manufacturers.Troubleshoot and resolve refrigeration, cooler, and ice maker issues in the field, accurately diagnosing equipment failures and implementing effective repairs.Install, inspect, and troubleshoot key system components such as compressors, evaporators, condensers, motors, seals, and outer shells.Repair and recover refrigeration systems, including performing brazing during repairs and following proper recovery procedures.Maintain appropriate stock levels of parts and materials on service vehicles and ensure tools and equipment are in good working condition.Replace worn seals, outer shells, and worn-out motors to restore equipment performance and extend asset life.Work onsite in bars, restaurants, commercial buildings with refrigeration, beer distributors, gas stations, markets, public schools, and other customer locations.Service commercial refrigeration equipment, including walk-in coolers and associated HVAC and refrigeration systems.Essential SkillsHands-on experience servicing commercial refrigeration equipment, including walk-in coolers, reach-in refrigerators, freezers, and ice makers.Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing refrigeration equipment failures, including compressors, evaporators, condensers, motors, seals, and outer shells.Ability to perform refrigeration system repair and recovery, including brazing during repairs and using appropriate recovery procedures.Experience working with R-410A, R-22, R-454B, and other common refrigerants used in commercial systems.Knowledge of A2L classified refrigerants such as R32, R-454B, and R-1234yf, including their lower flammability characteristics and safe handling requirements.Knowledge of A1 classified refrigerants such as HFC R-407C and HFC R-410A, including their non-flame propagation and low toxicity properties.Strong refrigeration and HVAC troubleshooting skills, including repair, preventive maintenance, and system diagnostics.Ability to service HVAC equipment and refrigeration systems, including air conditioning and boiler-related refrigeration applications where applicable.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience servicing a variety of commercial environments, including restaurants, bars, beer distributors, gas stations, markets, and public schools.Experience in HVAC maintenance and HVAC system repair, particularly as it relates to refrigeration equipment.Familiarity with ammonia refrigeration systems and related safety considerations.Knowledge of universal EPA requirements and refrigerant handling best practices.Comfort working with a wide range of refrigeration brands such as True, Krown Tonka, Kramer, XDX, Bohn, McCall, Heatcraft, Russell, and Master Built.Ability to maintain organized stock levels on service vehicles and manage tools and parts inventory efficiently.Willingness to participate in on-call rotations and provide responsive support during extended service hours.Why Work Here?Employees benefit from the use of a company vehicle that can be taken home at night, making daily travel more convenient and efficient. The work involves visiting and servicing more than 200 restaurant locations nationally, along with numerous other restaurants, kitchens, markets, and public schools. The environment is fast-paced and hands-on, requiring regular travel, work in commercial kitchens and mechanical spaces, and use of specialized refrigeration tools and equipment.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Swartz Creek, MI.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $32.00 - $42.00/hr.Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
