Position Overview
Under general supervision of the Career Development Coordinator, the Certified Peer Recovery Supporter (CPRS) is responsible for mentoring and developing meaningful relationships with the residents, conducting community outreach and providing sober information for the residents. The CPRS will develop, plan and implement peer release services to assist residents with making the transition back into the community.
Summary of Job Duties
*Hired candidates will receive a $500 sign on bonus upon successful completion of the 6-month Review Period.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Peer Support Duties :Assist the residents with services that are individualized , recovery focused, based on a relationship of mutuality that allows the residents an opportunity to learn to manage their own recovery. Duties to achieve this includ but are not limited to:
• Coordinate resident arrival and departure for services within the community, working with the clinical team for a smoother transition.
• Work closely with the criminal justice system and other social services agencies and conduct follow-up as necessary.
• Facilitate ongoing peer support groups to assist residents in building skills such as healthy social interactions, overcoming fears, increasing overall personal wellness and recovery, increasing independence witin the community, and effective use of public transportation.
• Performs individual, group, community and family education about peer support.
• Assist with groups and/or education classes and provide de-escalation techniques with the residents.
• Refer residents to community programs/services and conducts follow-up post release.
• Assist and teach residents to advocate for the services that they need in order to maintain housing, recovery and overall wellness.
• Assist with transportation to help manage the continuity of care for the residents.
• Maintain documentation as required of all services delivered and submit data in a timely manner in the format provided.
• Attends regular supervison regarding professional, emotional and relationship boundaries.
• Maintain confidentiality expectations to protect residents.
• Engages in ongoing training on current practices in peer support services. Programing Responsibilities : Work with staff and residents to maintain a Peer Recovery Support program to include but is not limited to:
• Assists Clinical department in design, development and implementation of the peer support services program.
• Maintain confidentiality, respect the resident's privacy and interdependence as much as possible.
• Train Fellow personnel on the unique role of peer support specialists.
• Use of one's own recovery experience and training to assist residents in developing the skills and knowledge needed for recovery. Intentionally share one's story as appropriate, providing hope and help in changing patterns and behvior. This objective can be achieved by facilitating individual or group activities; including the skills, strengths, supports and resources used in one's own recovery.
• Take initiative to interact with the residents and help them to feel as comfortable as possible. Develop rapport and engage in a personal and positive suportive relationship, demonstrating and inspiring hope, trust and positive outlook. Provide emotional support.
• Educate residents on the purpose of peer support and recovery models.
• Providing support and interventions in crises as appropriate and help residents explore options to benefit in recovery and maintaining stability.
• Be well informed about trauma and explore with residents their experiences and support them in getting appropriate resources to aid in their recovery.
• Provide culturally sensitive and age-appropriate services.
• Focus positively on emotional growth, strengths and recovery goals.
• Address barriers to recovery such as ongoing treatment, employment and housing. Operations : The Peer Recovery Support person is expected to work in concert with Operations staff by adhering to the policies and procedures of the institution to maintain a safe environment. Interactions on the day floor are to include but not limited to:
• • Engage formally in informally with the residents while they are on the day room floor to include games, social activities and general conversations.
• Follow procedures for managing residents and report an safety or security concerns or issues immediately to Operations Staff.
• Assist with transportation to Day Report Center or other Montgomery County aftercare programs. Administrative : Participate in weekly team meetings, treatment team meeting and all staff meetings. Participate in the development of MonDay policy and proceduress. Perform Pubic Relations with all personnel and the community.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
Qualifications
• Must have a High School Diploman or GED
• Must have or be able to obtain a State of Ohio Peer Recovery Supporter Certification within 90 days of employment.
• Must be able to maintain Ohio Peer Recovery Support Certification in the required training programs.
• Valid State of Ohio Driver's License.
• Must be in recovery from substance abuse disorder
• Has maintained at least 2 years of sobriety
• Must be highlyl compassionate and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Must have the ability to build trust and impactful relationships with the residents
• Familiarity with Personal Computers and experience with various standard office software
• One year paid or volunteer experience working with individuals with mental illness, homelessness, substance abuse or offender re-entry
• Knowledge of the recovery process and the ability to effectively use own recovery story to provide support, validations, hope and encouragement to residents
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
• Ability to use basic intervention skills
• Ability to plan, organizae and coordinate work assignements
• Ability to engage in proglem-solving process
• Ability to perform basic office duties in environment of simultaneous demands
• Must adhere to Ohio Certified Peer Supporter Code of Ethics
• Ability to monitor condition of residents and recognize changes in mental and physical status
• Ability to maintain appropriate emotional and relationship boundaries with residents, as defined by the Ohio Certification for Peer Supporters
