Patient Care Unit Support

Provides organizational, receptionist, and clerical support to patient care units and the health care team. Communicates effectively via a variety of modalities with patients, visitors, and facility staff and plays an integral role in communication across the continuum of care. Functions as a resource to members of the health care team and is familiar with hospital resources. Secretarial activities complement the patient care delivery model. Carries out all aspects of the job using good judgment and problem-solving skills, strong interpersonal skills, and assumes responsibility for self-development within the role and participates in continuous improvement activities. Supports the healthcare team by anticipating and responding to team requests and patient needs. As well as monitoring patient telemetry monitors and alerting staff for critical arrhythmias and life threatening vital signs.

Baxter Health Compliance Responsibilities: Understands and adheres to Baxter Health standards as they appear in Healthstream Policy Manager. Required to work with the Nurse Director regularly to carry out, initiate and/or implement best practices for the Baxter Health CSICU Department.

Job Requirements

Education: High School diploma or equivalent or minimum score of Bronze on the Career Readiness Certificate. Experience: No experience required. Certification: Successful completion of basic arrhythmia competency exam. Course is offered free of charge by Baxter Health. Other: Ability to read, write and communicate effectively. Basic computer knowledge required.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job with or without an accommodation. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to perform the following: Must have the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, to solve problems and make decisions. Occasionally requires lifting of 50 pounds or more of equipment, able to push in excess of 150 pound wheelchair with patient and equipment, and occasionally lifts patients with assist 125 pounds or more using proper body mechanics. Spends eight hours or more in front of computer, monitor or similar screen utilizing keyboard and/or mouse. Must be able to respond quickly in emergency situations of CPR and obtaining equipment. Must be able to handle critical and highly stressful situations with efficiency and composure. Has a keen sense of hearing and keen visual acuity to respond to critical changing patient situations from actual observations and/or equipment alarms. May be subject to inside environmental conditions, hazards (including electrical currents and exposure to high heat and chemicals) and infectious.

Work Environment: Patient rooms, nursing unit, hospital environment.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: This is a position in a hospital setting which is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Potential for work on rotating shifts. Holiday and work during inclement weather will be required. You may be asked to work longer hours and assignments may change during your shift. Floating to other areas is occasionally required based on hospital needs. Seasonal call shifts are required.
