Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Painting Estimator with proven experience in commercial and/or residential painting projects. The Painting Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates, analyzing project specifications, and supporting project execution from bid through completion. This role requires strong technical knowledge, analytical skills, and effective communication with clients, vendors, and internal teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Review plans, specifications, drawings, and bid documents to determine project requirements
• Perform quantity takeoffs for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work
• Prepare accurate and timely cost estimates, bids, and proposals
• Analyze labor productivity, material usage, and job costs to ensure competitive pricing
• Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing
• Identify project risks, scope gaps, and value-engineering opportunities
• Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, and sales teams during preconstruction and post-award phases
• Attend pre-bid meetings, site walks, and client meetings as required
• Maintain organized estimating files and historical cost data
• Assist with change order pricing and budget revisions during construction
• Stay current on industry pricing trends, materials, and labor rates

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 3–5 years of experience as a painting estimator or related estimating role
• Strong knowledge of commercial and/or residential painting processes and materials
• Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Excel, Bluebeam, PlanSwift, Stack , or similar)
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
• Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• High attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to manage multiple bids and meet deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with public works, commercial, or large-scale painting projects
• Familiarity with coating systems, surface preparation standards, and paint specifications
• Knowledge of local labor rates and building codes
• Prior experience working with project management teams post-award
