Nurse Practitioner Or Physician Assistant
The Medical College of Wisconsin's Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology and Oncology is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide primary or specialty medical care within the inpatient setting. This position is in Milwaukee, WI at Froedtert and MCW/CFAC, other Inpatient Units and 24 hour clinic. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as a member of a multidisciplinary health care team who will contribute to excellence in program administration, patient care, patient safety, research, quality improvement, and teaching.
Position Highlights:
- Performs comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive and psychosocial status.
- Orders and interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests.
- Develops pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.
- Monitors effectiveness of plan of care.
- Educates patients on disease and treatment plans.
- Performs procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed.
- Documents within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.
- Collaborates and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.
- Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.
Department Specific Responsibilities
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care teams in diagnosis and treatment of conditions requiring Hematology/Oncology/BMT intervention in inpatient environment and 24 hr clinic as a member of the HemOnc/BMT inpatient service.
- Writes accurate and timely progress notes, procedure notes, and/or admission and transfer orders.
- Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents information.
- Privileged to perform procedures beyond core as identified by the Hematology/Oncology/BMT services.
- Facilitates and communicates with patient, family and staff to promote continuity of care across the continuum of care.
- Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements, including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Join Commission.
- Evaluates quality outcomes for the patients receiving care of this team through participation in the development of quality indicators and outcomes dashboard.
- Acquires information on the most current development and trends in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse Practitioner field, through educational programs, in-services, professional associates, and current literature.
- Participates in ongoing clinical research projects related to the field of hematology/oncology/BMT
- Provide initial assessment and initial and immediate on-site management of patient needs at night in conjunction with corresponding fellows/attendings.
- Perform admission history and physical documentation, enter and communicate orders, perform comprehensive assessments, respond to nursing/other care giver concerns, initiate appropriate care and evaluate care outcomes
- Receives sign-out at the beginning of each shift, completes sign-out at the end of each shift, thereby facilitating communication with the daytime providers.
- Updates appropriate medical records in Epic as pertinent to the clinical needs of the service prior to completion of each shift.
Schedule:
- Scheduling flexibility required to provide for an appropriate level of patient care coverage.
- Nocturnist rotating schedule. Monday- Friday, 7:00pm-7:00am, Sat-Sun and some holidays 4:00pm-7:00am.
Qualifications:
Preferred Experience: Five-year experience as a Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner with at least 1-2 years in a clinic or hospital environment working with chemotherapy or hematology/oncology/BMT patients.
Minimum Education:
- Advanced Practice Nurse: Master's Degree or higher in Nursing from a nationally accredited organization.
- Physician Assistant: Bachelor's Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies from an ARC-PA-accredited organization.
Minimum Requirements: *or eligible*
Advanced Practice Nurse/ Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner
- Wisconsin RN License
- Wisconsin Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber License
- Certification Requirements (multi-select which are applicable for position):
- Certification as Acute Care NP and/or Adult Care NP preferred
- AHA BCLS
- CITI Certification to be completed within 90 days of hire
- ACLS Certification required
- DEA
Physician Assistant
- Wisconsin Physician Assistant License
- Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
- Certification Requirements (multi-select which are applicable for position):
- American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
- DEA registration (if required for the position)
- CITI Certification to be completed within 90 days of hire
