RN Clinical - 7 W ICU - Full Time 12 Hour Days (Non-Exempt) (Union)

Overview As an integral part of the interdisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing process to provide therapeutic care to patients. The RN is accountable for coordinating patient care and education to patients and families in a compassionate, supportive, and therapeutic environment. Essential Duties Follow policies, procedures, and online manuals. Apply the Nursing Process: assess, diagnose, plan, intervene, and document patient care. Complete Nursing Assessments upon admission, each shift, and with changes in condition; record acuity by 0200 and 1400 daily. Formulate Nursing Diagnoses from assessment data. Develop Plans of Care with individualized interventions and document projected outcomes; revise daily. Administer medication, IV therapy, and procedural care per policy and at prescribed intervals. Delegate tasks according to scope of practice and competency. Act as patient advocate, manage restraints per policy, and attempt non‑restraint measures first. Ensure completion of MD orders, assessments, and monitoring per policy. Maintain thorough documentation on all forms including admission assessment, pain scales, flow sheets, restraint, diabetes, educational, risk assessment, MAR, transfer, and belongings tracking. Provide patient/family education, room/unit orientation, and identify knowledge deficits related to diagnoses. Coordinate discharge planning with Case Manager and/or physician, ensuring transfer paperwork and belongings are completed. Use patient care equipment safely and according to manufacturer guidelines (IV pump, feeding pump, PCA pump, epidural pump, SCP device, wound VAC, heating pad/pump). Communicate effectively with the healthcare team and families via shift reports, physician rounds, hand‑off reports, and facility email. Manage time efficiently, prioritize responsibilities, take meal breaks without overtime, and complete shifts on time. Regulatory & Safety Requirements Adhere to National Patient Safety Goals, JCAHO readiness, and OSHA requirements. Implement universal protocol, medication reconciliation, adverse event reporting, and infection control procedures. Apply hand‑washing, safe body mechanics, electrical safety, and hazardous waste management. Maintain isolation precautions for special patient populations (e.g., cystic fibrosis, organ transplant, hepatic encephalopathy). Specialized Patient Care Manage medical/surgical patients, including THA, TKA, spinal surgery, organ transplants, and complex critically ill patients. Provide advanced therapeutic modalities such as hemodynamic monitoring, CRRT, CVVHD, ventilation care, and advanced cardiac support. Operate dialysis equipment, perform dialysis treatments, and document according to policy. Engage psychiatric patients in therapeutic interactions, maintain milieu, assess safety, and manage psychotropic medications per consent. Use de‑escalation techniques and apply behavioral restraints only when necessary, following policy. Professional Development & Recognition Participate in professional hospital/nursing activities and committees. Maintain certifications and continuing education credits. Receive recognition for preceptor roles, professional certifications, and award achievements. Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) or grandfathered BSN if hired prior to 12/2019. At least 1 year acute inpatient hospital experience in the U.S. as a licensed RN. Excellent communication skills in English. Knowledge of medical procedures, including whole blood collection and apheresis. Commitment to excellence in patient care and customer service. Ability to work independently with minimal direction. Preferred Qualifications Specialty certification. Licenses / Certifications Required Registered Nurse (RN) – CA Board of Registered Nursing. Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – American Heart Association. Fire Life Safety Training – LA City (must be obtained within 30 days of hire if not already held). Compensation Hourly rate range: $44.00 – $95.00.
