This employee ensures that all documentation of client treatment services is complete, timely, thorough and accurate, to meet all agency, state and professional standards. An employee in this class provides psychopharmacological services including medication evaluation, consents, monitoring and orders for appropriate laboratory tests, reviews them and authorizes prescriptions. An employee in this class also provides psychiatric treatment, planning and consultation and/or coordination of care for individuals receiving services. A General Psychiatrist will provide supervision and teaching to Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners as required by professional and agency standards. A General Psychiatrist may provide educational presentations to agency staff and community organizations as authorized by agency administration and performs other work duties as assigned.Required Minimum Entrance QualificationsMust possess a Medical degree from an accredited college or university; ANDMust possess a current State of Michigan Medical License, Controlled Substance License and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) License; ANDMust have a State of Michigan Board Certification in Adult/Child/Adolescent Psychiatry, OR Achieve a Board certification within one (1) year of employment.Have post graduate clinical training or a minimum of one (1) year of experience in the field including diagnosing and treating persons with mental illness, developmental disabilities and co-occurring disorders.Lived experiences with mental illness/developmental disabilities/substance use disorders valued.Possess a valid Michigan driver's license.Must have reliable transportation that may have to be used to carry out job duties of this classification.Physical Conditions / Work LocationPHYSICAL ACTIVITIES An employee in this class generally performs sedentary work requiring the occasional lifting of objects weighing thirty-five (35) pounds or less.ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS A General Psychiatrist generally works at the offices and program locations of HealthWest; however, travel to locations within the County may be required.Additional InformationApplicants for County employment may be subject to a post-offer criminal background check, depending on the nature and assignment of the position. When such check is conducted, an offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the criminal background check.
