Job Title: Operating Room Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Surgical Services Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Days Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 3 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP Must-Have: - Preoperative and PACU experience preferred - Scrubbing required Description: The unit consists of 2 surgical suites, with only one room running at a time. The average number of cases per day varies throughout the week. On Mondays and Wednesdays, there are mainly colonoscopies and endoscopy procedures, averaging around 4 cases. Tuesdays typically include approximately 3-4 GYN cases. Thursdays are usually without scheduled cases unless emergent situations arise. Fridays average around 5 cases. Common surgical procedures include cholecystectomies, appendectomies, hernia repairs, abdominal hysterectomies, hysteroscopies, D&C's, colonoscopies, endoscopies, and C-sections. Typically, the operating room nurse will not deal with baby respiratory therapy during every surgery, as labor and delivery nurses serve as backups. Experience working in Preop and PACU areas is preferred. All nurses will assist and work as a cohesive team. The pace in the unit can be slow with considerable downtime. Despite a lack of onsite housing, there are many RV sites available nearby. The closest area with ample housing is a short distance away. Expect to float between Preop and PACU. Additional tasks may arise in other departments if there are no scheduled surgeries. A 30-minute call response time is required for on-call shifts. Shifts will be scheduled to include 3 - 12 hour workdays, with 17-20 call shifts within an 8-week scheduling period. Weekend 24-hour shifts may also be required. All nurses are expected to remain available to be called back if needed. Surgical scrubs will be provided as part of the dress code. Unit-specific orientation will include 2 days in the OR, along with training in Preop/PACU as agreed upon. Collaborative teamwork is essential for successful and efficient operations.
