Description:

We are looking for a curious, self-driven, and team- and goal-oriented individual to join our group in microbial gene discovery. This position will be filled as a Laboratory Specialist or Scientist, depending on the candidate's experience. The ideal candidate will have a background in microbiology (preferred) or related fields such as molecular biology or general biology, with a BS or MS degree. A few years of laboratory experience, preferably in industry settings, is essential. This role will support our gene discovery initiatives, focusing on microbial strain isolation, culturing, testing, genomics, and metagenomics.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform microbial strain isolation, culturing, and testing.
• Conduct DNA extraction from diverse samples, including microbial cultures and environmental samples
• Prepare specialized microbiological media
• Implement improvements to laboratory processes, including automation
• Participate in the development of novel methods for targeted microbial isolation and testing
• Maintain accurate laboratory records in an electronic lab notebook
• Present findings at group and departmental meetings

Required Skills:

• Proficiency in general microbiology and molecular biology techniques
• Experience working in a BSL-2 lab environment (highly preferred)
• Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills

Collaborative attitude with the ability to work effectively in a team setting

Bonus Skills:

• Experience with automation
• Knowledge of microfluidics
• Familiarity with microscopy techniques
• Proficiency in bioinformatics
