Driver Lead

Department: Fleet

Reports To: Fleet Manager

Position Summary

The Driver Lead is responsible for supporting the daily coordination of delivery drivers and ensuring that all routes are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company policies and food safety standards. This role serves as a working lead who assists with route planning, driver support, and delivery coordination while also performing delivery duties when needed.

The Driver Lead helps ensure that all deliveries are completed accurately and on time while maintaining proper handling of food products and adherence to transportation safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Support the coordination of daily delivery routes and driver schedules.
2. Serve as a point of contact for drivers during routes to address questions, delays, or delivery concerns.
3. Ensure deliveries are completed accurately, safely, and on schedule.
4. Assist with loading and verifying delivery orders prior to departure to ensure accuracy.
5. Perform delivery routes as needed to support operational needs.
6. Ensure drivers follow company policies related to safety, food handling, and customer service.
7. Monitor delivery documentation including delivery logs, invoices, and proof of delivery.
8. Assist in training and onboarding new drivers on routes, safety procedures, and company expectations.
9. Communicate route issues, vehicle concerns, or delivery challenges to management.
10. Support fleet oversight by reporting vehicle maintenance needs or safety concerns.
11. Ensure proper handling and transportation of food products in accordance with food safety standards.
12. Promote safe driving practices and compliance with DOT and company safety policies.
13. Assist with resolving delivery discrepancies or customer concerns when they arise.
14. Maintain communication between drivers, warehouse staff, and operations to ensure efficient delivery operations.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 2–4 years of delivery driver or transportation experience preferred.
• Prior experience in a lead driver or route coordination role is a plus.
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required.
• Ability to operate company delivery vehicles safely and responsibly.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to support and guide a team in a fast-paced delivery environment.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
