Construction Inspector I

STARTING SALARY: $53,662.26 ANNUALLY THIS IS A PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT POSITION Under general direction, the Construction Inspector inspects, evaluates, and reviews all technical work involving the inspection of public works construction for the City of Clearwater. Essential Functions : -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Provides daily information and feedback to project managers and engineers regarding status of projects, work completed, and pictorial evidence of project status; visits job sites daily to confirm work, answer questions, and ensure quality. Monitors, evaluates, and inspects the construction of public works projects, privately funded projects involving City sanitary, storm sewers, and water main construction in the City right-of-way and commercial development. Monitors schedules for work progress including inspections, and other milestones; keeps schedules updated and maintained following project status and progress. Performs constructability reviews of construction drawings at various stages in design for City capitol improvement projects; reviews specifications and bid forms for accuracy and clarity. Serves as a liaison between project engineers and contractors, interprets City specifications to contractors, and keeps the project engineer informed of progress. Collaborates with contractors and recommends field design changes to accommodate unforeseen conditions. Prepares, creates, and drafts monthly estimates of work to ensure all contractors are paid efficiently, timely, and within project completion timelines. Responds to citizen's complaints regarding construction; provides information and direction to appropriate areas for resolution. Performs customer service and other duties as assigned. Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment A valid State driver's license is required. This position is required to operate the below equipment, machines, tools, and other work aides: Fax, copier, personal computer and related software, hammer, sledge, shovel, probe, manhole hook, screw drivers, linesmen's pliers, ladders, voltage testers, Troxler, camera, and other equipment as assigned. Education and Experience High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate PLUS certificate supplemented by six (6) months vocational training of mathematics and one (1) year responsible experience in building, road, or water main construction and inspection. Knowledge of – Mathematics and Plane Geometry Building materials and methods Street, sidewalk, utility, drainage, and other construction mediums City specifications for building streets and sidewalks, sanitary and storm sewers, gas, and general public works Construction regulations, codes, laws, and statutes General office policies and procedures; computers and general office equipment Skill in – Interpreting blueprints, plans, and specifications Enforcing regulations and standards Responding to issues and complaints Using measurements and inspection equipment Coordinating work crews on public works jobs Engaging both contractors and project engineers Completing tasks given both orally and in writing Maintaining detailed files and records Establishing and maintaining relationships with Project Managers, consultants, contractors, and the general public Operating a computer and related software #J-18808-Ljbffr
