Description Schedule: Part-Time / 24 Hours Shift: Days 7a-3p FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Pay Range $18.00 – $26.00 per hour The compensation range listed above represents the good-faith range Cary Medical Center anticipates relying upon when making an offer for this position. Job Summary: The Unit Secretary plays a vital role in supporting patient care by coordinating communication and ensuring the efficient processing of ancillary department orders. This position manages information received through telephone calls, call bells, and direct interactions, directing inquiries to the appropriate team members. Working collaboratively with the Charge Nurse, Supervisor, and Nurse Manager, the Unit Secretary assists with staffing adjustments for current and upcoming shifts. When applicable, this role also performs Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) duties as requested. Essential Job Duties: A. CNA Duties Promotes patient safety and abides by the patient fall risk program and completes fall risk rounding at least twice per shift. Obtains and documents vital signs and reports abnormal findings to patient’s nurse. Performs daily weights and reports abnormal findings to patient’s nurse. Appropriately documents ADLs, ambulation, intake and output, vital signs, weights, safety rounding, and any other patient care activities performed throughout shift. Ensures that patients have fresh water, while appropriately observing patients with NPO status or fluid restrictions. Assists patients with activities of daily living along with providing them with supplies. Assists in ambulating patient according to physician order. Has ability to sit 1:1 with patients requiring such supervision. Ensures that patient’s rooms have an updated whiteboard, are tidy, and free of clutter. Appropriately sets up a patient room for admission. Changes linens on beds daily and when soiled. Removes all linens from patient rooms after discharge and before housekeeping begins the terminal cleaning of the room. Able to document patient name, date and time on computer for telemetry patients. Checks patient refrigerator daily for dates on open containers and expired items. Performs other work-related duties as assigned. Complies with local, state, and federal laws and regulations. B. Unit Secretary Duties Maintains unit supplies and equipment to meet patient care needs. Manages patient call system and responds appropriately and timely to patient requests. Provides continuity of patient orders, day-to-day and shift-to-shift with appropriate follow-up. Timely entry of all patient data and results. Notifies Dietitian of NPO/Hold, TPN, tube feeding, and consult requests. Ensures that adequate numbers of admission packets are available on the unit. Maintains/updates chart by keeping it organized, adding forms, thinning chart as needed and posting hard copy results. Accurately maintains current active medical record. Accurately posts cumulative and transcribed reports in the appropriate medical record as they are received, prepares chart for the OR prior to a procedure. Copies chart for professionals when patient transfer in progress and locates old records in Health Information department as needed. Completes all clerical functions for patient admission/transfer/change of status and discharge and notifies Admitting via electronic medical record. Arranges for physician-ordered follow-up visits at time of discharge. Meets with other CNA/Unit Secretaries relating to staffing needs and staff availability. Consults with the Charge Nurse/Primary Charge Nurse/Nurse Manager or the Supervisor as necessary. Maintains an accurate roster, documents sick calls and all pertinent information. Requirements Licenses and Education: Must have an active valid CNA certificate in Maine. High School diploma or equivalent preferred. Obtains BLS certification within 1 year of hire into this position and maintains current certification thereafter.
