Job Description

The Quality Control Technician supports process and product quality by preparing equipment, samples, and materials for testing, performing environmental monitoring in cleanrooms, and reviewing batch records from production. This role coordinates with external testing laboratories for sterilization and microbiological analysis, evaluates test data, and documents findings to ensure products meet all specifications and regulatory requirements. The technician plays a key role in identifying nonconformances, supporting investigations, and contributing to a strong culture of quality in a regulated manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform incoming, in-process, final, and finished product inspections to ensure products meet established specifications and acceptance criteria.
• Conduct measurement and verification activities using calibrated inspection equipment, documenting results with accuracy and attention to detail.
• Review manufacturing documentation, supplier-provided data, and Certificates of Analysis to verify compliance with quality and regulatory requirements.
• Verify product labeling, packaging, and acceptance criteria, ensuring all components and finished goods meet quality system requirements.
• Identify, document, and control nonconforming materials and products, including maintaining quarantine areas and segregating returned product to prevent unintended use.
• Enter and maintain complete, accurate, and compliant records in accordance with established procedures and quality system requirements.
• Perform environmental monitoring of cleanrooms, including humidity and temperature checks and verification of pest control measures.
• Collect, prepare, and submit samples to various internal and external laboratories for further testing and analysis.
• Verify and analyze laboratory results, compare findings against specifications, and document conclusions in a clear and organized manner.
• Prepare and mix chemical formulations for production and manufacturing use, following standard operating procedures and safety guidelines.
• Execute in-process quality control tasks to support ongoing production and ensure consistent product quality.
• Maintain maintenance records for all equipment used in quality control and laboratory activities.
• Perform daily pre-operational quality control checks of passivation chemistry and document results.
• Conduct visual inspection of packaging and perform seal strength and integrity testing to ensure sterile barrier performance.
• Review sterilization certificates from third-party laboratories and verify all criteria are met for full product release.
• Perform quality control investigations and support corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs), including data collection, analysis, and documentation.
• Review batch records and manufacturing records, including sterile processing data, test results, certifications, labeling, and paperwork, to ensure compliance with specifications and quality system requirements.
• Partner with third-party testing laboratories by preparing devices for sterilization, coordinating sample submissions, and recording sterility and test results.
• Support investigation plans for nonconformances by gathering data, assisting with root cause analysis, and contributing to technical reports.
• Ensure inspections and documentation activities are completed on time and aligned with priorities and production schedules.

Essential Skills

• Associates degree or Bachelors degree in a science-related discipline.
• 4+ years of quality experience in a regulated industry such as medical device, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, aerospace, or food.
• Demonstrated experience in quality control and quality assurance activities, including inspections and documentation.
• Experience with environmental monitoring in controlled or cleanroom environments.
• Hands-on laboratory experience, including sample preparation, submission, data collection, and analysis.
• Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Experience with sterilization processes and aseptic techniques in a regulated environment.
• Experience performing investigations, technical reports, and analysis, with at least 1+ year of investigation and technical reporting experience.
• Ability to develop or support corrective action plans and conduct investigation and analysis activities.
• Strong quality mindset, including the ability to speak up when something is out of scope or noncompliant.
• Proven ability to follow SOPs, as verified by references.
• High attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and recordkeeping.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work to meet production schedules, and complete inspections on time.
• Strong computer and documentation skills for recording measurements, test results, and quality data.
• Commitment to quality and continuous improvement in a regulated manufacturing environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in the medical device industry.
• Experience working with third-party sterilization laboratories or contract testing laboratories.
• At least 6+ months of sterilization or environmental monitoring experience in a regulated environment such as medical device, pharmaceutical, food, brewery, or aerospace.
• Experience with microbiology-related testing or laboratory work.
• Familiarity with corrective and preventive action (CAPA) processes.
• Ability to wear multiple hats and support various functions within a smaller, collaborative organization.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with production, quality, and external laboratory partners.
• References who can speak to a strong quality mindset and adherence to SOPs.

Work Environment

This role is fully on-site at a manufacturing facility in St. Paul, MN, operating Monday through Friday from approximately 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The position is hourly and involves a mix of hands-on and documentation work, with roughly 80% of the time spent on quality control functions and 20% on documentation and recordkeeping. The environment includes cleanrooms where environmental monitoring and sterile packaging activities occur, as well as laboratory and production areas where samples are prepared, equipment is maintained, and inspections are performed. You will work with calibrated inspection equipment, chemical formulations, and passivation chemistry, and you will interface regularly with external laboratories for sterilization and testing. The company operates multiple sites and maintains a small, family-run culture at the local facility, emphasizing collaboration, cross-training, and the opportunity to take on varied responsibilities. This is a Permanent position based out of Saint Paul, MN.

The pay range for this position is $62400.00 - $79040.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
