What You’ll Be Doing Paraprofessionals in our Improvement District will work with individual pupils or groups of pupils on special instructional projects, providing the teacher with information that will assist the teacher in the development of appropriate learning experiences. They will assist pupils with instructional resources and the development of instructional materials, and will utilize their own special skills in areas such as foreign languages, arts, crafts, music, and similar subjects. Paraprofessionals will also assist in related instructional work as required. Work with small groups of children so the teacher can work with a large group or individual children. Help a teacher to construct a lesson plan. Present segments of lesson plans, as directed by the teacher. Communicate with parents of students at a school site or as otherwise directed by a teacher. Help a teacher to train other teaching assistants. What Our Schools Are Looking For High School Diploma or GED required (60+ college credits or an Associate’s Degree strongly preferred). Valid New York State Teaching Assistant Certificate, to be obtained by September. NYC Public Schools calculates starting salaries based on education, years of service, and UFT contract scales. This is a 10‑month position with salary annualized over 12 months, ensuring consistent pay during school breaks and summer.
