Headquartered in Boston, Veolia has more than 10,000 employees working at more than 350 locations across North America.Job DescriptionPosition Purpose: Conduct thorough reviews of waste profiles, safety data sheets (SDS), and waste materials to ensure worker safety and regulatory compliance while maximizing approved waste volume for revenue generation. Provide senior technical leadership, mentorship, and strategic oversight of waste approval processes and compliance operations.Primary Duties/Responsibilities: Waste Review and ApprovalReview WIP, SDS, and waste profiles with meticulous attention to detail to prevent unsafe materials from entering operationsConduct advanced chemical composition analysis and hazard characterization assessmentsEstablish and maintain chemical acceptance criteria, thresholds, and approval protocolsDevelop and implement waste approval standards and best practicesMentor and supervise junior technical staff on waste analysis methodologiesProvide senior-level technical authority on complex or high-risk waste streamsLead continuous improvement initiatives for approval processesDiscrepancy ManagementIdentify, track, and resolve off-specification waste issues in FMS and Salesforce systemsConduct root cause analysis on compliance failures and safety concernsDevelop corrective action plans and preventive measuresSupervise investigation of discrepancies and ensure timely resolutionEscalate critical safety or compliance issues to managementMaintain comprehensive audit trails and documentationLabpack AuditsConduct detailed audits and reviews of labpack shipments prior to acceptanceEstablish and maintain audit protocols, quality standards, and acceptance criteriaReview and approve high-risk or complex waste materialsSupervise and train staff on labpack audit proceduresEnsure all materials meet acceptance criteria prior to operational intakeProvide technical guidance on packaging and labeling complianceApprovals EnrichmentMaintain and enhance approval data in FMS databaseDevelop and maintain chemical compatibility matrices and reference databasesCreate and update technical documentation and approval guidelinesImplement system improvements to enhance data quality and accessibilityEnsure accurate, complete, and traceable records of all waste approvalsLead database optimization and standardization initiativesCustomer CommunicationProvide timely feedback to branches and customers regarding waste opportunitiesCommunicate acceptance/rejection decisions with clear technical justificationIdentify and communicate waste stream opportunities to maximize approved volumeServe as senior technical liaison between operations and external stakeholdersBuild and maintain strong customer relationshipsRepresent technical department in customer negotiations and discussionsQuality AssuranceSupport field operations with drum segregation oversight and chemical/waste compliance verificationDevelop and implement quality assurance protocols for waste acceptanceConduct periodic audits of approval processes and complianceMonitor and report on approval metrics and performance indicatorsRecommend process improvements to enhance safety and efficiencySupervise quality assurance activities and staffTechnical SupportServe as technical resource for incineration and landfill operations; assist or backup process planners as neededProvide expert technical guidance on waste processing and disposal methodsSupport complex operational decisions with advanced analysisConduct training and provide technical mentorship to operations staffLead technical problem-solving initiativesServe as subject matter expert for regulatory and compliance mattersWork Environment: Office environment.QualificationsEducation/Experience/Background: Bachelor degree preferred8+ years of relevant experienceKnowledge/Skills/Abilities: Regulatory and ComplianceAnalytical Chemistry and TestingHazardous Waste ClassificationIncinerator Operations and ChemistryWaste Acceptance CriteriaChemical and Physical Properties of Chemicals/WasteIndustry-Specific KnowledgeSOP developmentStrong Leadership and communication skillsStrong Technical skillsProject Management experienceComputer skills including Microsoft or Google suite, Industry-SpecificTechnical expertiseAccountability, integrity, continuous improvement, regulatory awarenessAdditional InformationBenefits: Veolia’s comprehensive benefits package includes paid time off policies, as well as health, dental, vision, life insurance, savings accounts, tuition reimbursement, paid volunteering and more.
