Paid Time Off During the first year of service, full time non-exempt (hourly) employees accrue 7 hours of annual leave and 7 hours of medical leave per month. During the second year of service, full time non-exempt employees accrue 10 hours of annual leave and 10 hours of medical leave per month. During the third and subsequent years of service, full time non-exempt employees accrue 14.66 hours of annual leave and 14 hours of medical leave per month. Employees must work for the University for three months before they are eligible to use annual leave. Temporary employees do not accrue leave.

Eastern New Mexico University offers a tuition waiver for regular employees and retirees. This program waives the tuition for three courses (up to nine credit hours) per semester. Employees' spouses or children may be eligible to use the tuition waiver during any semester that it is not being used by the employee.

Position Overview
Position Summary Under general supervision, installs, maintains, and repairs pipes and fixtures necessary for the operation of water, vent, and drainage systems and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
Requirements
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assemble, install, and repair pipes, fittings, and fixtures of gas, heating, water, irrigation, and drainage systems
- Work with plastic and metal pipes, vents, floor and roof drains, water, soil, and waste lines
- Maintain, repair, and install underground piping systems, building piping, fixtures, and building equipment
- Perform pipe and tubing joining or welding
- Maintain and service all heating, refrigeration, and ventilation units, including exhaust fans
- Assist in the installation and maintenance of chillers, chilled water distribution systems, boilers, heating distribution systems, and related components
- Repack and/or replace pump seals, fittings, and valves
- Maintain plant equipment in accordance with established efficiency and safety standards
- Establish and maintain a positive and cooperative working relationship with members of the department and the campus community
- Maintains proficiency at current level and continually updates knowledge through appropriate courses, seminars, publications, and contact with others in the trade
- Effectively perform in a service environment
- Maintain an acceptable attendance record, punctuality, and meeting deadlines
- Maintain a functional awareness of the typical hazards of the workplace, as well as biohazards that may be encountered at the University
- Responsible for adhering to policies, procedures, and practices on safety and operational instructions
- Comply with rules and regulations applicable to building codes
- Operate a light vehicle to transport materials and equipment
- Perform all aspects of general maintenance
- Regular and predictable attendance required
- Performs other duties as assigned
- High school diploma or the equivalent
- Four years of plumbing or HVAC experience is preferred
- Must have a state of New Mexico journeyman plumbing license, sheet metal license, or state of New Mexico journeymen refrigeration license and EPA refrigerant certification
- A valid New Mexico Driver's license and the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle in all weather and conditions
- Skill in maintenance and repair procedures, including preventative maintenance
- Knowledge of proper use and maintenance of hand and power tools related to job functions
- Knowledge of building codes, rules, and regulations, as well as the ability to understand the University policies and procedures as related to the position
- Ability to move through limited access spaces
- Ability to observe and practice safe working habits and maintain security of buildings and systems, and effectively work individually or in teams, as well as with diverse groups
- Ability to work effectively in a service-oriented environment subject to frequently changing priorities
- Ability to follow through and carry out assignments, problem-solving skills, and sound judgment
- Ability to read, write, and understand written and oral instructions
- Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures
- Ability to learn the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used
- Knowledge of plumbing, welding, and soldering techniques
Physical Demand and Working Conditions:
- Work is performed both inside and outside in extremes of hot plus temperature changes in conditions involving fumes, odors, toxic situations, and hazardous conditions
- Work is heavy in nature, with a maximum weight of 100 pounds to lift and carry
- Work is performed in conditions with exposure to noise, vibration, dirt, odor, fumes, toxic situations, and/or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching, using hands or fingers, talking or hearing, and seeing
- Must have the physical dexterity to operate a variety of equipment
