Special Education Paraprofessional

Location: Bird Elementary School

Hours: 37.5 hrs weekly Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm

Job Goal: Paraprofessional will provide support for physical needs, toileting, lunch support, and physical management for students with IEPs.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Demonstrate ability to work with parents, students, and support personnel.
• Good communication skills.
• Good attendance record.
• Good organization skills.
• Ability to be self-directed.
• Ability to engage in problem identification and solving.
• Ability to maintain good rapport with staff/parents/students.
• Previous experience as a one-on-one paraprofessional preferred.
• Experience working with children with health impairments preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Works in collaboration with general and special education staff to support students with IEPs in the least restrictive environment.
• Functions under the guidance of special education teacher, and supports students' accommodations and modifications per their IEPs.
• Supports students with specific plans developed by the special education professional team.
• Assists the special education classroom teacher and support personnel in the implementation of health care, behavior, and instructional programming.
• Manages both behavioral and instructional logs.
• Maintains and implements data collection systems.
• Supports established goals and objectives for students.
• When applicable, operates equipment used in the special education program for the production of printed or other audio-visual instructional materials.
• Supervise students in the lunchroom, halls, and outside as assigned by supervisor.
• Bending, lifting, and overhead work required.
• Performs other tasks as assigned.
• Provides support in the areas of behavior, medical, and daily living and functional skills (i.e. toileting).
• Provides clinic/first aid/medication support to students.

Reports To: Building Administrator

Rate of Pay: Class IV - $19.13 per hour

Beginning Date: As soon as possible

Evaluation: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the bargaining agreement guidelines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit. Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs such as boxes of books. The employee is directly responsible for safety, well-being, or work output of other people. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus.
