NOTICE OF VACANCY

Jackson Madison County School System

TITLE: Library Media Specialist (K-12)

REPORTS TO: Building Administrator

SUPERVISES: N/A

TERM: 10 months (200-day contract)

JOB GOAL: To serve as a resource from students, teachers, and community members to strengthen student learning and researching skills.

QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING:

• Master's degree as required by the State of Tennessee
• Teacher's certificate with qualifying endorsement area
• FBI/TBI Fingerprint/Background Clearance every five (5) years

Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent might find appropriate and acceptable

EVALULATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Maintains an orderly and neat library.
2. Works collaboratively with classroom teachers and school administrators to integrate both curricular concepts and information skills that assist research and other learning activities.
3. Provides an environment that allows efficient access to resources, including both print and electronic.
4. Maintains a collection that adequately supports the curricular priorities within the school.
5. Provides services that adequately support the curricular priority within the school.
6. Provides staff assistance in designing activities that help students learn to identify, analyze, and synthesize information by using a variety of materials and formats.
7. Participates in instructional planning by collaborating with classroom teachers to design, implement and evaluate resource-based teaching units.
8. Assists students and staff in the use and production of supplementary teaching/learning materials.
9. Explains and assists in the use of reference resources, periodical indexes, computerized search systems.
10. Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
