Information Technology Specialist

Summary For more information on the Department of Justice and the United States Attorneys' Offices, visit Duties Provide IT customer service and support in troubleshooting, recovering, and resolving recurring software/hardware problems. Provide user training and assistance on a variety of routine applications. Provide a variety of technical support services to coordinate teleconferences and distance learning activities to effectively deliver legal training using electronic and/or telecommunications media. Install, configure, upgrade and troubleshoot commonly used hardware and software systems within the organization. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Requirements Conditions of employment: You must be a United States Citizen or National. Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre‑employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation. You may be required to complete a one‑year probationary period. See “Additional Information” section for specific details. Selective Service registration is required for males born on, or after, December 31, 1959. Those not registered should have an approved exemption on file. A USA Hire assessment is required. An email will be sent with additional information after you submit your application. You will have 48 hours from the closing date of this announcement to complete the assessment. You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement. Qualifications To qualify for the position of Information Technology Specialist, at GS‑2210‑7/9, you must meet the qualification requirements listed below. To be eligible at the GS‑7 level One of the following conditions (Specialized Experience or Education). Specialized Experience One (1) full year of experience equivalent to the GS‑05 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as providing IT customer service and support in troubleshooting, recovering, and resolving recurring software/hardware problems; coordinating teleconference and distance learning activities; installing new upgraded software; collaborating to configure using knowledge of network standards and protocols and maintaining access control systems. Education Successful completion of one (1) full year of graduate education (18 semester hours or the number of units your school uses to describe one graduate year of academic study) leading to a master's degree in a related field (e.g. computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management) which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do Information Technology Specialist work. Superior Academic Achievement Possess a Bachelor's Degree or expect to complete the requirements for a Bachelor's degree within the next 9 months and possess at least one of the following criteria: class standing in the upper third of the graduating class; an overall GPA of 3.0 or at least a 3.0 based on courses completed during the final two years of my curriculum; a GPA of at least 3.5 based on the average of required courses completed in my major field or based on the average of required courses completed during the final two years of my curriculum; or election to membership in a national scholastic honor society. Degree must be in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. To be eligible at the GS‑9 level One of the following conditions (Specialized Experience or Education). Specialized Experience One (1) full year of experience equivalent to the GS‑07 grade level. Qualifying experience providing IT customer service and support in troubleshooting, recovering, and resolving recurring software/hardware problems; installing and distributing new or upgraded software to ensure customers receive current version of supported software; assisting converting user‑developed content into workable web pages; assisting and installing routine updates and patches to existing programs; and maintaining access control systems. Education Possess one of the following types of education in a related field (e.g. computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management): a Master's or equivalent graduate degree; or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP) The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. If your agency has notified you in writing that you are a displaced employee eligible for ICTAP consideration, you may receive selection priority if: (1) this vacancy is within your ICTAP eligibility; (2) you apply under the instructions in the announcement; and (3) you are found well‑qualified for this vacancy. To be well‑qualified, you must satisfy all qualification requirements for the vacant position and receive a score of 85 or better on established ranking criteria. You must provide proof of eligibility to receive selection priority. Foreign Education Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in a conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying. If you are qualifying on foreign education, you MUST submit proof of creditability of education as evaluated by a credentialing agency. Probationary Period your performance and conduct; the needs and interests of the agency; whether your continued employment would advance organizational goals of the agency or the Government; and whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service.
