Job Description\n American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN ICU - Intensive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.Job Description & Requirements\n \n Specialty: ICU - Intensive Care Unit\n Discipline: RN\n Start Date: 10/05/2026\n Duration: 13 weeks\n 36 hours per week\n Shift: 12 hours, nights\n Employment Type: Travel\n \n Assignment Overview\n \n Shift: Nights, 3x12hrs\n Hours: 36 hrs/wk\n Start Date: Oct 5, 2026\n Length: 13 weeks\n Openings: 1\n Description\n American Traveler is hiring an ICU/Stepdown RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring 2+ years of critical care experience and strong vasoactive drip management skills.Details\n \n ICU stepdown unit functioning similarly to a full ICU with 20 beds and an ADC of 18\n Patient population includes post rapid response team patients, respiratory distress, unstable hemodynamics, withdrawal, GI bleeds, and post-op GYN, GU, GI, thoracotomy, neuro, and ortho surgical patients\n Also cares for pre/post OB patients with complications including Pitocin administration\n Patients range from adolescent to geriatric\n Target patient ratio of 1:3-4\n Night shift schedule with 12-hour shifts from 18:45-7:15\n 36 or 48 hours per week available\n Every other weekend required\n Floating required as needed to a sister ICCU unit\n Only one pressor drip per patient is managed on this unit; additional pressors require ICU transfer\n Manages drips including Cardizem, Nitro, Precedex, Cardene, Levophed, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Neo\n Uses bedside telemetry monitors with remote backup\n Unit does not have ventilators but does manage A-lines, BiPAP, chest tubes, and tracheostomies\n Utilizes Pyxis and Epic systems\n No block scheduling; schedule created by nurse manager\n Requirements\n \n Active NC or Compact RN license required\n BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required\n Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required\n Experience with arterial lines and titrating vasoactive and cardiac drips required\n Experience in PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown and Telemetry settings required\n Skilled in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias\n Experience with Rapid Response/Code teams required\n Proficient in IV insulin protocols, blood product administration, and heparin protocols\n Central line, peripheral line, and PICC line care/management experience required\n Experience managing chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), external CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, and nasal cannula required\n Skilled in non-invasive airway management and tracheostomy care/management\n Isolation precautions/PPE experience required\n IV start, telemetry, and conscious sedation experience required\n Epic charting experience preferred\n Additional Information\n \n Responsible for recognizing and treating dysrhythmias using bedside telemetry monitoring\n Must be able to attend hospital orientation classes each day during the first week\n Must pass EKG testing prior to start for this specialty\n Scrub colors required: navy, white, or a combination of the two\n First-time travelers are welcome to apply\n Local candidates within 50 miles accepted at a lower rate\n Former Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before applying, with hospital name and dates of employment disclosed and facility approval required\n Current travel per diem clinicians must choose between per diem or travel contract status\n Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved if not falling on a holiday; no RTO allowed during the first week of assignment\n Must work 2 of 3 major holidays\n Travel pairs allowed if on different units with separate transportation and schedules\n No block scheduling permitted\n \n \n American Traveler Job ID #P-754776.
