NOW OFFERING: $1,500 SIGN ON BONUS! Paid in two installments (after nine and twenty-two weeks of employment)

The Rail Crew is in charge of overseeing all functions of the rail operations. They are responsible for all administrative and general labor associated with the rail operation. This position is responsible for safely switching railcars in the yard and safe train movement.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Obtain and receive information and act on oral or written instructions by various communication devices
• Climb on/off equipment, set/release hand brakes, couple/uncouple air hoses, operate knuckle to couple/uncouple rail cars
• Hold meetings with crew to communicate and delegate action plan for the day
• Judge and control speed as well as clearance distance of cars
• Operate track switches and other equipment to change train routing within yards or on road
• Check switch points for proper alignment
• Switch, spot cars and determine train make-up
• Walk and perform work on uneven surfaces.
• Observe and monitor track conditions (e.g., broken rails, defective switches, weather-related problems)
• Inspect cars for visual defects and safety concerns
• Walk tracks to perform inspections and track checks.
• Report any damages or maintenance issues with the rail equipment.
• Follow and enforce Personal Property Equipment (PPE) policy
• Assist other areas of the transload terminal as needed.
• Any other duties as assigned by the terminal manager.

Key Requirements

• Ability to work at various heights above the ground including on locomotives, railcars, and other equipment.
• Physical capabilities (crouching, bending, climbing, walking etc.)
• Must be able to lift 50lbs and team lift 80lbs.
• Ability to work in extreme weather such as rain, snow, wind, and extreme cold/hot temperatures.
• Basic math (adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing)
• Communication skills
• Interpersonal skills
• Experience in basic administration functions
• Experience in Microsoft office (Word, Excel, Outlook etc.)
