Work Environment
This role is based in a steel fabrication shop environment, working with structural steel, pipe, sheet metal, stainless steel, carbon steel, and aluminum. You will regularly use welding equipment (flux core, MIG, TIG, pulse MIG), hand tools, grinders, and measuring tools such as tape measures. The position follows a structured schedule: Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Friday from 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with some Saturdays from 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. as needed. The setting is industrial and production-focused, requiring adherence to safety procedures, use of appropriate personal protective equipment, and attire suitable for a fabrication and welding shop.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $28.00/hr.

Job Description
This role involves performing structural steel welding and fitting at a steel fabrication facility, including flux core and tack welding, precise measurement, and production work with a variety of metals. You will support the fabrication of structural and mechanical components by interpreting blueprints, preparing materials, and ensuring high-quality welds and fits that meet production and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform structural steel fitting and welding duties in a steel fabrication environment.
- Read and interpret blueprints and drawings to determine layout, measurements, and fabrication requirements.
- Use a tape measure accurately to the 1/16th of an inch to mark, layout, and verify dimensions.
- Set up, position, and fit structural steel, pipe, and sheet metal components for welding and assembly.
- Perform flux core welding and tack welding to join and secure components prior to final welding.
- Use MIG and TIG welding processes, including pulse MIG, on materials such as carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and structural steel as required.
- Operate hand tools and power tools, including grinders, to prepare, fit, and finish metal components.
- Inspect welds, fits, and finished assemblies to ensure they meet quality, structural, and AWS-related standards where applicable.
- Work safely and efficiently in a production environment, meeting daily and weekly output goals.
- Lift and move materials and components weighing up to 50 lbs as part of daily fabrication tasks.
- Collaborate with team members, fabricators, and welders to complete projects on schedule.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all shop safety procedures and guidelines.
- 1-2 years of experience in structural steel fitting and pipefitting in a fabrication or construction environment.
- Proficiency in structural steel fitting, including layout, positioning, and assembly of steel components.
- Hands-on experience with pipe fitting, including measuring, cutting, and fitting pipe for welding.
- Ability to perform flux core welding and tack welding on structural and pipe components.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and fabrication drawings accurately.
- Skill in using a tape measure to the 1/16th of an inch for precise layout and verification.
- Capability to lift up to 50 lbs safely and repeatedly during the workday.
- Experience using common hand tools and power tools in a metal fabrication environment.
- Understanding of basic mechanical principles related to metal fabrication and assembly.
- Familiarity with working with structural steel, sheet metal, stainless steel, and carbon steel.
