Senior Supervising Attorney, Consumer Complaints and Driver Protection

Job Description The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) is the agency responsible for licensing and regulating NYC's yellow taxicabs, for‑hire vehicles, commuter vans, paratransit vehicles, and certain luxury limousines. TLC licenses and regulates over 80,000 vehicles and approximately 150,000 drivers, performs safety and emissions inspections, and holds hearings for violations of City and TLC rules and regulations. It is the most active taxi and limousine licensing regulatory agency in the United States and plays a pivotal role in public safety and in citywide efforts to reduce traffic‑related injuries. One of the largest components of its operations is enforcement of administrative regulations. Responsibilities The Senior Supervising Attorney will oversee prosecuting attorneys and supervising attorneys assigned to the Consumer Complaint Unit (CCU). Responsibilities include: Managing the intake of complaints filed by members of the public against TLC licensees. Reviewing and editing charging documents prepared by prosecuting attorneys. Monitoring the quality of complainant interviews and prosecutor performance. Addressing matters escalated for further action or review. Coordinating with case examiners to ensure timely resolution of complaints. Participating in outreach events concerning drivers’ rights. Conducting settlement conferences. Collaborating with state and local government bodies on joint investigations. Participating in regulatory review and recommendations regarding TLC rules impacting drivers. Qualifications Admission to the New York State Bar. One year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar; or six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086). Incumbents must remain members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment. To be assigned to Assignment Level II, candidates must have one year of experience at Assignment Level I or two years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment. To be assigned to AL III, candidates must have two years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or three years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment.
