Position Summary

The Shipping Lead is a working frontline leader who supports the Shipping Senior Lead and supervisor in directing daily shipping activity. This position provides immediate floor direction, assists employees with order execution, reinforces accuracy and safety standards, and develops the full range of skills required for advancement to Shipping Senior Lead. Monday-Thursday, 5:45am-4:30pm with Overtime as needed Friday-Saturday.

Key Responsibilities

Shipping Lead will be expected to consistently deliver outstanding outcomes in the following areas:

1. Provide immediate floor direction and support to Shipping Pullers while continuing to assist with shipping work as needed.
2. Assist the Shipping Senior Lead with daily assignments, workflow changes, staffing coverage, and order priorities.
3. Ensure employees follow approved picking, scanning, packing, palletizing, staging, loading, and paperwork procedures.
4. Review completed orders and related paperwork for accuracy and sign off completed work when authorized before palletizing or loading.
5. Provide hands-on training, coaching, and process correction to new and existing employees and coordinate with experienced employees who assist with training.
6. Monitor employee readiness and recommend when employees may perform assigned tasks independently.
7. Handle routine employee and operational questions and elevate unresolved issues to the Shipping Senior Lead and supervisor.
8. Assist with inventory discrepancies reported by Shipping Pullers:

• Send the required adjustment email, copy applicable Warehouse leadership, follow up in person with the Inventory Lead
• Place the approved Adjustment in Progress tag and support the Inventory Lead and supervisor with accurate information and physical verification.

• Assist with attendance tracking for the full Warehouse/Shipping department when the Shipping Senior Lead is absent.
• Provide verbal coaching or performance warnings within established policy, document required communication, and recommend formal action to the supervisor when appropriate.
• Support daily safety expectations, housekeeping, stretches, safety topics, and hazard correction; immediately stop and report unsafe work when necessary.
• Coordinate with leadership in other departments on schedule, out of stock, and labor needs.
• Provide immediate coaching to employees temporarily assigned to Shipping and communicate repeated performance concerns to their regular Lead.
• Assist the supervisor with Shipping Senior Lead responsibilities when the Senior Lead is absent, within demonstrated training and assigned authority.
• Learn and demonstrate all Shipping Senior Lead duties as part of the developmental path and coverage as necessary.
• Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

This is a developmental leadership position. The employee is expected to remain actively involved in floor operations while learning and demonstrating the complete Shipping Senior Lead role. Promotion readiness is based on sustained accuracy, leadership judgment, policy compliance, communication, training ability, and operational competence, not time in position alone.

Qualifications

1. High school diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
2. Prior warehouse, shipping, receiving, or manufacturing experience preferred but not required.
3. Basic math, reading, and communication skills required.
4. Ability to use computers, scanners, or shipping software.
5. Demonstrated accuracy in order picking, scanning, packing, staging, and shipping documentation.
6. Working knowledge of Business Central or similar ERP, inventory storage process, item and LOT identification, handheld scanners, and warehouse documentation [Microsoft excel, word, outlook, teams].
7. Ability to give clear direction, coach employees, reinforce procedures, and communicate concerns professionally.
8. Strong attention to detail, organization, follow-through, and ability to manage changing priorities.
9. Ability to identify operational problems, investigate routine causes, and escalate appropriately.
10. Ability to work cooperatively with Shipping, Inventory, Production, Quality, Customer Service, and Trucking & Logistics.
11. Ability to maintain confidentiality and apply attendance, conduct, safety, and performance policies consistently.
12. Must be able to communicate clearly with employees, leadership, and internal departments and calmly deal with difficult people and situations.
13. Ability to operate forklift, manual and electric pallet-jack, or other material-handling certification as required; training may be provided.
14. Reliable attendance and demonstrated readiness to assume increasing leadership responsibility.
15. Strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
16. Ability to load/unload trucks.
17. Ability to meet productivity standards and deadlines.

Physical Environment

1. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; lift, carry, push and pull materials up to fifty (50) pounds (with or without assistance); bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and twist frequently; use hands and arms for grasping, handling, and operating shipping equipment; perform repetitive motions; climb ladders or stairs as needed; read labels and shipping documents; and work in varying warehouse temperatures, noise levels, and fast-paced conditions while maintaining safe work practices.
2. Manual dexterity for scanning, labeling, and packaging.
3. Work may occur around moving equipment, loading docks, varying temperatures, noise, and food allergen operations.
4. Frequent use of computers, handheld scanners, phones, and standard office or warehouse equipment.
