Limited Term Legal Support Supervisor II

Job Description And Duties This is a 12-month limited-term appointment with the possibility of becoming permanent. Under the general direction of a Supervisor II (Office Manager) and the immediate supervision of a Supervisor I (Assistant Office Manager), the Legal Support Supervisor II (LSS II) will supervise 2 or more Legal Support Supervisors I (LSS I), and indirectly a team of legal secretaries/senior legal typists who provide legal support to the legal divisions (attorneys and paralegals). The LSS II will work closely with subordinate supervisor LSSIs and mentor them in planning and organizing, conflict management, customer service, hiring, performance management, and developing others. The LSS II will oversee their performance and evaluate their ability to perform. The LSS II will plan, organize and assign legal support staff in providing legal and clerical services to the legal staff; ensure employees receive adequate training; monitor progress and works closely with the Legal Specialist team on the implementation of continuing training efforts; review and approve probationary and annual performance appraisals; recommend appropriate personnel action; review IDPs and EDPs; oversee the planning and flow of work; assign and reassign staff to meet changing workload conditions; plan, review, evaluate, and recommend changes of operating procedures; monitor precautionary measures for health and safety as directed by office policy; and, through subordinates, direct their implementation, including preparation of manuals; perform a wide variety of administrative duties to maintain the support functions of a large legal office; disseminate changes in policy and procedures to support staff on a regular basis; hold individual and team meetings; meet regularly with attorney staff to discuss the efforts of the support staff to provide quality service; complete ongoing reports and special projects as delegated by the Supervisor I, Supervisor II, and LSO Southern CA Manager.
